Since I'm too lazy to write a second profile (I'd rather be reading!), if anyone wants to know more about me, there is a lot of info on my MySpace. Same username, same avatar.

Some basic info: I'm female, 53 years old, formerly a Microbiologist and then for over 20 years, full-time mom. Now that my kids are growing up, I've gone back... more »

Hello! I am trying to work on some of my reviews and was while shelving books (yeah, I'm filling in for a little while) I was reading the last few you added for last months tag. You have such wonderful reviews! So I was hopping over to look through your shelf and realized that we aren't friends...Huh???!!! Anywho's I did grad a few books to add to my shelf. And read through some more of your reviews. My goal is to add a review for all the books under the "Books I've Read" section. The world might come to an end first, but I'll start plugging away at it!

Hello there, I promised to let you know how my trip to Bulgaria was and I have failed miserably. Thought I should keep my promise though - better late than never!

We started in Sofia where we spent 4 days, then went to Veliko Turnovo for 2 days before returning to Sofia in order to fly out. It wasn't a long holiday and in terms of what we did, well we didn't do much really, just lots of relaxing!

We did get out of Sofia on a day trip to the Rila monastery and went hiking in the mountains around there briefly - it was absolutely stunning, especially as all the leaves were turning golden, orange, yellow, red etc. The effect was absolutely awe-inspiring. I think we both felt that the natural beauty far outshone the actual towns: the main tourist attractions of Sofia are quite easily seen in an afternoon really, although admittedly we didn't go into any museums or galleries (problem with London is that we are so spoilt we get a little museum-ed out!) The churches were beautiful but as I said, they were totally outshone by how stunning the natural landscape was.
In Veliko Turnovo there is a great castle - we arrived on a public holiday so they had a free sound and light show there in the evening. Interesting to say the least - at one point it involved a woman screaming at the same time as green lasers were being shone from a tower... but actually it was very dramatic and a great first view of the castle. We really enjoyed it there despite the rain!

Generally we had a great time but spent a lot of it in cafes and restaurants not doing very much as we both have quite hectic lives at work and really needed to wind down - it was a great holiday for that as we felt the pace of life was quite relaxed. One thing I was really surprised about and thought was wonderful was how friendly the Bulgarians are - I've lived in Russia, travelled around the Balkans and Baltic and haven't yet come across a nation of people who are so willing to go out of their way to help and be friendly.

I had a great time and really enjoyed it. So there you go, my trip to Bulgaria! Inspired to go yet?

I wanted to apologize to any of my friends here on Shelfari who got the impression that my Halloween "BOO"k was spam. I really did not intend for it to be perceived that way. If I could put a smile or brighten someone's day with a simple gesture, then I would do it in a heart beat (espeacially, considering the times that we live in now).

I hope you all have fun this Halloween because I know I enjoy the heck out of it! :)

You can give me some tips on Bulgaria then! We booked it on a whim as it was one of the few countries in Europe that neither myself nor my boyfriend had been to before, and actually wanted to visit (there are a few which we haven't visited and don't have much desire to either!!) Apart from having seen some absolutely stunning photos of views up in the mountains and around the lakes, I don't really know much about Bulgaria as a country. We're going in 3 weeks though - I'll let you know how it is!

London is a great city - you should definitely return and visit for longer. I've been here for about 5 years now (Longer? hmmm) and still love it; always somewhere new to discover, events happening and the added advantage of most of the museums and galleries being free! I haven't looked at your page yet (am just about to) - whereabouts are you from?

Hi :) I've heard about the sequel to Firelord, Beloved Exile, and that its about Guenevere! I haven't read it either but I'm definitely excited to read it when I can. Hopefully if I can't buy it at Hastings I can order it on interlibrary loan. Boys and Girls Together is great but it's quite long and can be very depressing at times. William Goldman also wrote The Princess Bride, I'm sure you've heard of it, which has been one of my favorite books for years, but for some reason I never read anything else of his, until this year. :) Now I want to read everything of his!

    Hi Ghost!
"The Man With A Shattered World: History of a Brain Wound" written by Luria. Luria was a famous Soviet neuropsycholpgist. I know you like Oliver Sacks...this is his Hero. I havent yet read the book. Luria wrote another book about a man with an incredible memory. I'd like to read them together. The title may not be exact, as I do not have an excellent memory for detail.(lol) Just thought I'd mention it to you, since I find incredible books I love on your Shelfari.I wish I could add on another 100 yrs or so to my life just esp, for reading, writing and conversations with strangers about strange topics. Hows the P.A. thing going? That looks like a fantastic opportunity..Good going and Good Luck!
