Welcome to Better than Starbucks! Look around, make yourself at home, start a new thread or dig up an old one or just read and jump in on the more active ones.

Sorry for the late reply. Wilde is always reliable. Did you get any of the other books that I told you about?

It's always hard to make recommendations! What sort of book are you in the mood for? Classic literature, mystery, deep thoughts, or just a good page turner? Two of my favorite mysteries are Gorky Park and Bangkok 8 - they were both great. The Prince of Tides and The Lords of Discipline, were two of my favorite southern (US) novels, great stories that you hate to finish. I just finished reading a very good book called Suite Francaise, about France in WWII, it had an interesting perspective - the first half was about the fear of invasion, and the second half was about living life alongside the invaders. I read the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime last year and thought it was completely original! A mystery told from the standpoint of an autistic child. If none of these sound like what you want, let me know - I've read lots more!

Give the library a try, and if they haven't got it perhaps a local bookseller can special order a paperback for you. Also it's possible that the Library might be willing to purchase a book for their collection, if they don't already have one. I really think you'd enjoy Watership Down! I read on the Wikipedia that since it was published in 1972, it's never been out of print, is Penguin Books best selling book of all time, and was named in 2003, the forty-second greatest book ever written. I think I've talked myself into re-reading it!

Hello Maricel! I've been thinking about what to recommend to you, and have come up with a winner, Watership Down, by Richard Adams. I'm not really into fantasy type books, but this book is an absolute must-read! It's a story about rabbits, their lives and their myths. Within a few pages I had completely accepted the premise of a World-According-to-Rabbits, and was completely enthralled. One of the best books I've ever had the pleasure to read. It's a book that can be read and re-read on many different levels, and will always be enjoyable.

I liked the HP series too. Even though I have read only the first 3 books in the series. Here are a few recommendations :

    1) Hobbit by J R R Tolkien
    2) Catcher in the rye by J D Salinger
    3) The importance of being Earnest by Oscar Wilde (Play)
    4) Never let me go by Kazuo Ishiguro
    5) The man who mistook his wife for a hat by Oliver Sacks (Clinical tales)

    Keep in touch!
