I think I'll dare showing up for dinner tonight, regardless of which book you'll have to put down to darken the doorstep of the kitchen.

Regarding Murakami, I recommend starting with "Norwegian Wood". It's different from his later works (it's more straightforward than allegorical) but it's also the easiest to relate to. You can also try his short stories in "The Elephant Vanishes". Murakami isn't as easy to get into as, say, Jostein Gaarder, though. "Norwegian Wood" is the most mainstream of his novels.

Hello! You have an interesting bookshelf, too! It's very diverse. I see a lot of things I might pick up eventually.

If you're interested in Gaarder, I recommend you start with "The Orange Girl." It's a simple yet beautiful love story.
