I haven't read the sequel because (a) I'm afraid it won't be as good as The Red Necklace and (b) I struggle with the French words (which is why I enjoyed listenin to The Red Necklace, I didn't have to worry about how to correctly pronounce them). But if you buy it & listen to it, let me know if you like it.
Isn't the Red Necklace phenomenal? I really enjoyed listening to it. One of the best audiobooks EVER! Also enjoyed listening to Graceling.
I really enjoyed The Red Necklace on BOCD. And that's a book I probably would have not read otherwise because it's set during the French Revolution, using lots of French words I cannot pronounce. So listening to it was a treat. And the story was fantastic!
I loved Magyk! I listened to it though. I haven't picked up the rest of the series though - but that has more to do with school and required reading than anything else.
