I just saw you are reading Shadow Prey, is it holding your interest? I read the first, but it took a while and then this one was just not doing anything for me, so I switched to a different genre. I very seldom stop in the middle and inthis one I am about 60% finished. I prefer Alex Cross (James Pattreson) or Greg Illes.

Hi Raine. How are you getting on with the Karin Slaughter books? I found the third one in the series "A Faint Cold Fear" hard going. I finished it but thought the next book "Indelible" was better. I am now about to start on "Faithless", the 5th in the series.

Meanwhile, I also read "The Good Guy" by Dean Koontz which I recommend if you haven't read it. It was fast-paced and I read the whole book in 2 sessions as I just couldn't put it down!

Thanks for adding me as a friend Raine. My daughter recommended the Karin Slaughter series to me - she read all the series one after the other.

I lived in Amsterdam when I was there. I think I've been to Rotterdam before. I'm pretty sure one of my mom's friends lives there.

You should definitely check out the Virgin Suicides movie. I don't think you'll be disappointed :)
I really loved Girl with a Pearl Earring. It's one of my favorite books. Not as grand as the Virgin Suicides, but really interesting. I saw the movie, but it was rather boring. I mean, I think they stuck to the book well but I don't think the book is exciting enough for a movie. It's a great book, but not too thrilling on the big screen.

I saw you were from the Netherlands and a sentimental string in me tugged because I lived in the Netherlands for awhile so I thought I'd add you :)
Now I'm browsing through your shelf :)
Ah you read the Dante Club?! How is it?! I've been yearning for a chance to read it but one hasn't arisen yet.
Oohlala a book by Margaret Atwood? I've only read The Handmaid's Tale which she wrote. Have you read it? It's an AMAZING book. It's one of my favorites. How did you like The Blind Assassin by her? I'm such a book worm lol but I guess most of us here are, right?
One of your favorite books is the Virgin Suicides?! It's one of mine too. That author is a genius. I loved it. Such dark humor, but so capturing. Have you seen the movie starring Kristin Dunst? They did an excellent job with it and followed the book pretty well.
So where in the Netherlands do you live?

I Raine! Sorry for taking so long to get back to you - but I've been really busy - Just wanted to wish you a great Queen's Day! Looks like the weather is not going to be that great. We are off to Paris tomorrow morning and I'm hoping the sun will be out there! Have fun!

Turkey sounds like a great trip. I've had a couple of friends visit ther and I looked at their pictures and it seemed very nice. At least there you can finally enjoy the sun! We are off to Paris at the end of the month. We are leaving on Queen's Day, which I'm sorry I'm going to miss because it's a lot of fun, but 5 days in Paris is a nice trade off.
Yes, Andrew Gross co-wrote a couple of books with James Patterson. I finished the book (the Blue Zone) this weekend and it was very good.

I'm originally from Connecticut, which is about 3 hours away from New York and about 2 hours away from Boston. A great place to live in the summer, but the winters are way too cold and usually get too much snow for my taste.

I hope you have a great week and looking forward to chatting with you more

Hi Raine! Rotterdam isn't too far from Amstelveen. A little over an hour by car right? I've only been to Rotterdam once I think and it was quite a while ago, but I have a couple of friends in my Expat group who live around that area.
Are you Dutch or did you move here from some place else? I've been trying really hard in the past two years to learn the language, but I'm just not a language person. I can read it pretty well, and I understand for the most part when I hear someone speaking Dutch, but when it comes to me speaking it - forget it! We speak mostly English in our home but I try to speak Dutch when I'm out. I work for an American Company in Hoofddorp so I use mostly English.
I hear we are going to have another crappy weekend - so my plans are to stay in, keep warm and catch up on some reading. I'm reading the Blue Zone by Andrew Gross at the moment. So far it's really good! I hope you have a great weekend!

Hi Raine! Thanks for the note! I agree, it's always nice to "meet" other people living in the Netherlands. I do like living here, but does the rain ever stop??? You would think I would get used to it by now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the warm weather will come soon!

Hi! Thanks for joining us here at the Paranormal Mystery group. I hope you find some good reading ideas on our shelves and discussions. Feel free to add any pertinent books/discussions of your own too.

Out of curiosity, I noticed that all of the books on your shelf are in English. Does Shelfari lend itself to books in Dutch? I know I've seen something that looks Arabic on some other people's shelves.

BTW: We presently have one book in common(John Connolly) but it was one I couldn't finish because I was too chicken. It's really well written though and I'd recommend it to anyone with a stronger stomach than mine.

Dear Raine: As a member of the Thriller and Suspence Book Group, you may be interested in hearing about my new novel, HUNTING THE KING, coming out next week. While you live in the netherlands, you can still order the book on-line if you desire. here are the details:
HUNTING THE KING is a fast-paced page-turner that follows archaeologist Molly O'Dwyer into war torn Iraq in search of the remains of Jesus. ForeWord Magazine says: "Fans of intellectual thrillers and historical fiction will find a worthy new voice in Clenott. His best invention may be Molly O’Dwyer, a genuinely likeable heroine who more than holds her own in a man’s world. An ambitious scientist, she is also an observant Catholic whose heart and mind don’t always agree. Given such an auspicious start, the sequel can't come too soon." Molly is an in-your-face woman with a mysterious past who is about to go on the adventure of a lifetime.

While the book isn't available until April, you can find it on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kunati Books and other googleable sites.

To get a good sense of how exciting the novel is check out the heartpounding trailer for the book at http://www.kunati.books/hunting-the-king-peter-clenott/. Or you can view it on YouTube or my web site at www.peterclenott.com. You can also talk to Molly on her own blog at http://gospelofhannaniah.blogspot.com. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
