Dear Dabney: I wonder if your mother's library is carrying my debut novel or if your book club would be interested in reading it. My debut novel HUNTING THE KING was published in April. The novel revolves around a charismatic young woman named Molly O’Dwyer. Molly was five years old when she witnessed her mother die in a fire. She never knew her father. After her mother’s death, she was raised on the campus of a Jesuit college. Now an archaeologist, she has been recruited to participate on a dig in war torn Iraq. As a scientist she is compelled to discover whatever or whoever is buried under the sands of ancient Babylon. As an observant Catholic, she is scared that whatever she finds will have devastating consequences for her faith. There is a wonderful YouTube book trailer well worth watching if you have the chance. Just for fun i went and looked at Bee's shelf. She has 61 books listed. Of them there is not one I have read. In browsing the shelves of others i have become interested in a book called Late nights on air by Elizabeth Hay and Heat by Bill Buford. i had already jotted down Beginner's Greek and The Secret of Lost Things from your shelf.
I have also been working on a list of books to give Elia (Jeff's daughter) for her birthday. She is turning 12 and a voracious reader. But i need to be a little careful in terms of content b/c she's somewhat sheltered/unworldly. Here is what i have come up with so far, please comment:
Goose Girl, The Blue Sword (sequel to the Hero & the Crown which i gave her on your recomm and she loved, Al Capone Does my Shirts, Mick Harte Was here. I'm waiting for Rune Marks to come out in paper and i heard one called I Capture the Castle is good, but the bookseller at Borders said the ending is more appropriate for an older child. Thoughts? Suggestions? (Her mother is a librarian so i've avoided the obvious titles)
