It helped that I started GEB when I was 12. And have no problem with skipping over stuff I didn't understand. I learned the logic stuff and read all the dialogues at that age, but had to skip a lot of the "serious" stuff at that time.I re-read when I was in high school and had learned more. I got through more of the material. I re-read when I was in college, and was a math and physics major, and now understood even more of what he was talking about.I re-read when I was in grad school, and was trying to teach some of this stuff to other people. And I was learning neurobiology as part of my studies and I finally got the visual cortex stuff and the "grandmother cell".And now I'm in the middle of a re-read, now that I've had some years since I've left grad school. While there aren't surprises anymore, per se, it does get me to think about certain things I hadn't considered in a very long time.
