Ruth tells of her experiences coming to America, in the way she remembers it, through the eyes of a child. The wonderment of coming by boat, taken in by family and battelling bedbugs in Chicago. It's a very quick read with alot of history about her parents.

Elizabeth and Hazel Two Women of Little Rock David Margolick

    5 stars

One iconic pictures of the Little Rock Nine trying to enter school on 4Sep57 has endured the test of the time, it was of a young black woman entering school with a white student yelling behind her. This was the picture that would be the face of desegration in the south. Elizabeth, the black student, became the face that everyone wanted to know about. Hazel just became 'the yelling white student' who would remain nameless for years. Both lived completley different lives but was connected in one moment in time.

The Other Wes Moore One Name Two Fates Wes Moore

    4 stars

Within a year of each other, blocks apart two Wes Moore's were born, both raised by single mothers. In the year 2000, the Baltimore Sun newspaper ran a small story about Wes Moore winning the Rhodes Scholorship. In the same paper, there was a bigger article about a murder and the hunt for two suspects, one named Wes Moore. The Wes Moore who had won the Rhodes Scholorship was haunted by the other Wes Moore because he knew it easily could have been him.

Leave Me Alone, I'm Reading Maureen Corrigan

    4 stars

Maureen Corrigan has my dream job, she gets paid to read books and then gets to give her opinion on NPR's Fresh Air as a book critic. "It's not that I don't like people. It's just that there always comes a moment when I'm in the company of others, even my nearest and deares, when I'd rather be reading a book." My sentaments exactly! She reveals which books and authors have helped her shape her life, ranging anywhere from English classics to hard boiled detective stories. It was a delightful fast read about my favorite subject.

He asked himself what the hell did he do by moving his family outto 'the rock' but quickly decided it was a wonderful place, and the prisioners were respectful. Jim and his family were the last ones to leave the island in 1963, making him the last guard out. He found things very changed when he went back to visit and decided to write his account of life on the rock.

If You ask Me Betty White

    5 stars

Betty White covers two years of her life (ages 88 and 89) in this short but funny account of her life. She counts herself as wonderfully lucky to have hit gold with Hot in Clevland, a show she had agreed only to be on for the pilot. But she loved the cast so much, she agreed to do it. She actually described the 'girls' the way she did her Golden Girls co stars and didn't even realize it. Her laughter comes through and it's a fast read.

    The Innocent Harlan Coben

    2 stars

This book was disappointing, the writing is different views. Matt Hunter is an ex con making good, but there are others in his small town that think he should still be in jail. They are now trying to ruin his life with his new wife, by trying to making Matt think she's having an affair. When people start to die, it all points to Matt but the writing of this book made me want to give up on it. Quickly.

Those Are Real Bullets Bloody Sunday Derry 1972

    Peter Pringle and Philip Jacobson

    4 stars

British paratroopers fired on unarmed Irish Catholic demonstraters on 30Jan1972. This was a major turning point in the struggle and made the world aware of the struggle in Ireland. Five of the protestors were shot in the back, and 13 were beat to almost unrecognizable by there families. This is one of the first books that had interviews and extensive research, and provides a vivid account of the struggle.
