I'm a middle school librarian, so I enjoy reading YA books as well as "big girl" books. I try to mix it up, alternating between fiction and nonfiction.     Hi Library Goddess! I'm just back from ALA in DC. Geesh, it sure was HOT! I agree about Mockingjay. They're keeping a lid on that one, sort of like Harry Potter books. I sat with editors of SLJ at an award luncheon and they can't even get an early copy! (I believe SLJ is doing an interview with Suzanne Collins for the Aug. issue.) Crazy.
    I'm the HS Librarian at CV.
    As far as YA that would be good for Middle School the best new ones I've read and would highly recommend are Red Pyramid (Riordan) and Three Rivers Rising: a story of the Johnstown Flood (Richards).
    I also really liked Raider's Ransom by E. Diamond. Have you read any of those?
    Enjoy some extra time to read. And please keep me in the loop if you read any great YA that you think HS kids would like!

    There are a couple of ways I download books to my MP3. I went the MP3 route rather than an IPOD because Apple won't give my library consortium the coding to allow downloads. So anyway, when I setup my Creative Zen MP3, it came with an offer for a free book from audible.com. I tried it, I liked it, so now I have an audible account. Eventually I got around to downloading books from my library. They use a program called Overdrive Media for the download & tracking process. Once an book has expired, it will delete it from my computer (I still have to delete it from my MP3). If you've got books on CD that you want to use on your MP3, copy them to your computer, then sync with the MP3. I've done that as well, it's a little more cumbersome, but it works.

    I'm a middle school librarian as well. I think one of the biggest challenges with this age group is trying to bring in YA books that won't bring in censorship! There are so many great YA books out there and I know sometimes I am pushing the limits, but I am a big believer in non-censorship. But in a school, one has to be careful!

    Hey, so sorry that I haven't answered your question sooner about the Mary Higgins Clark book. I am not familiar with that storyline. Either I read that one a long time ago, or that is one that I haven't read yet. I hope you are yours are well. I have recently been reading a lot of Tess Gerritsen. She does medical thrillers well. I am enjoying her moreso than Robin Cook, who is better-known for that genre. I still plan on expanding my horizons and reading more of the classics and biographies, but life seems to get in the way sometimes. I read Pillars of the Earth many many years ago and remember loving it. I have bought the sequel, but I'm not sure if I should reread the first one, or if the sequel will rehash it for me. Again, sorry for the delay.

    Hi! To be honest - I started Pillars of the Earth and I have been plugging along on and off now for many months. I have a bad habit of reading many books at once :) I like the book, but can't say I love it. My husband and I went through a nightmare adoption journey - we loved and lost three boys. I am doing research for a book I am writing on how corruption is ruining adoption. Please join our group if you are interested in reading books about adoption from multiple perspectives.     Hello! My first job after Grad School turned out to be in New York State (just about 20 mins from the PA line) so, no I have not. I am job hunting in PA right now, so hopefully I will be able to go to Hershey sometime soon. I went to college in Southern PA, and have never been to Hershey Park or the Conference Center if you can believe it.

    I think that was Silent Night. Her books are all very captivating, I just have a hard time remembering which one is which because all of her titles seem similar. I haven't found one of her books that I don't like though, and I think I have read them all.

    Hi. I enjoyed the Memory Keeper's Daughter although it was a hard read for me as I had a twin daughter who died shortly after birth. As in the story, her surviving twin was a boy. So reading it brought back all kinds of memories and pain. As for Pillars of the Earth, it's always been one of my all time favorites, way, way before Oprah got ahold of it. I loved the combo of art, architecture, love and suspense. Thanks for asking!
