Tamia B

I may be 50, but at heart I'm still a horse-crazy girl. To fill the time between riding lessons, I teach English at Roger Williams University (Bristol, R.I.) and Bristol Community College (Fall River, MA), take care of my birds, gerbils, fish, and husband of 12 years, and read. My favorite kinds of books are murder mysteries and novels,... more »

Looks good, I'm always looking for new horse books. Have you ever noticed that most of the horse books are mysteries?? Why is that??

Tamia, thank you for your response to "should I read this: The Lost Symbol." I DID end up reading it and it is really staying with me. I keep thinking back to the intrique and suspense and how I wish I could read it again for the first time. I have enjoyed all of Dan Brown's books and while this one is not my favorite of the five, it was enjoyable.

PS I grew up with horses, and for many years defined myself as a horsewoman, can't even get on my bike except from the correct side to mount a horse. But I don't think I could ride one, now. Too much time has passed...

    Hi Tamia,

Replying more to you. My husband is chronically depressed and has heart disease. He is currently non-compliant in his meds.

I would never have done this if I'd known how it affects EVERYTHING.

My brother in law (his sister's husband, so no blood relation) is manic depressive. He had many many good years but is now noncompliant and it affects EVERYTHING. It takes so much time my sister in law can't find time to get postage stamps.

So I feel for you sister.

I really thought I would get a lot of reading done this summer. After all, school is out, it's my time to relax. In fact we were going to turn my son's room into a library after we move him to college. Well, when my oldest daughter told us that she was expecting our first grandchild (due in December) and that she was getting married in August, and my son decided to go to college after all (we're moving him in August) and we took what will probably be our last full family vacation (went to Vegas) and found out my mother-in-law will bemoving into the room my son is vacating (so no library), all plans of spending a relaxing summer with my nose in novels disipated. Now I feel lucky to have finished a book at all. I completed Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke during our Vegas trip. I have logged it under "Travel to another world" on my group "2 books a month". It was book three in a trilogy. It was good. I guess because I had such long periods between when I could read, I found it hard to keep up with; my fault not the author's. I am about to leave with my mom to go to Midland for a week. I am planning on bringing a few books with me. Maybe with no wedding plans to work on, and no college preparations, no kids or husband to cater to, I will have the opportunity to read. Wish me luck. :-)

I hated writing until I graduated college. If only the bug had hit me in high school, things might have been so much different.

Thanks, Tamia. My wife and daughter ride horses at a nearby farm in Haverhill. If you ever want a guest speaker to talk to your class about fiction writing, I would be glad to make time since you're not too far from me. I have done some bookstore events in Rhode Island. Peter

Dear Tamia: I am an author from Massachusetts. After years of rejection slips, I had my debut novel HUNTING THE KING published last year. The publication of a novel by a small independent press requires a lot of independent promotion, too. As part of that promotion I try reaching out to people who might have an interest in HUNTING, which is a page-turning thriller. The main character is Molly O’Dwyer. When Molly was five years old, she witnessed her mother die in a fire that Molly believes she set. After her mother’s death, she is raised on the campus of a Jesuit college. Thirty years later, she is an archaeologist recruited to join an expedition into war torn Iraq. What lies buried beneath the sands of ancient Babylon that would have an international team of scientists anxious to risk their lives? A passionate scientist herself, a seeker of truth, Molly can’t resist the call. Yet, still a loyal Catholic, she can’t help but fear the consequences of this momentous dig. ForeWord Magazine said, ‘Given such an auspicious debut, the sequel can’t come soon enough.’ If you have the time, check out the explosive YouTube book trailer for HUNTING THE KING. Please let me know if you have an interest. Thank you.

I jokingly say that my hobby is keeping people awake and making them cry, which makes me sound kind of mean. But I'm always happy when someone reports tears (or lost sleep). Thank you!

    Hey Tamia,
I was looking for a group for 'mature' women and found/joined one called the Hot Flash Club but there doesn't seem to be any activity on it.

You are as bad as I am. If there is a hint of horses in or on the book I will check it out. You saw the book 'Breaking Free', how many people would notice that it was a horse on the cover?

Hmm that is interesting. because when a horse downward transitions it can get a little bumpy. I ve gotting my horse doing flying lead changes on command and i am starting to work another horse doing the same thing but first i have to get her to bend. Do you kno anything about bending?

    Tamia,
You mentioned previously about using tags for finding books. I just started playing with the tags and added the tag Horses - Adult to my horse books. A lot of the books under any of the other tags show a lot of kids books.

No it wasn't. I assume Bloodlines was about the wild horses on the Banks.
