Dear Irishrose: I saw on your bookshelf that you enjoyed reading Dan Brown's novels. If so you might keep your eyes out for another Irish gal by the name of Molly O'Dwyer. Molly is the main character in my new novel HUNTING THE KING. Molly was five years old when she witnessed her mother die in a fire. She never knew her father. After her mother’s death, she was raised on the campus of a Jesuit college. Now an archaeologist, she has been recruited to participate on a dig in war torn Iraq. As a scientist she is compelled to discover whatever or whoever is buried under the sands of ancient Babylon. As an observant Catholic, she is scared that whatever she finds will have devastating consequences for her faith. There is a wonderful YouTube book trailer well worth watching if you have the chance. If you do get to see, please let me know what you think. Thanks. Peter

I'm sorry, I must mixed up the title. Stand By Me was the song, but the story was, The Body. Gordie and his friends discovered a body. I don't remember much of it, But Gordon or Gordie is one of King's fave character he is somehow King himself, because Gordie wants to be a writer, he is the one who stutters. And I forgot the one with the ravens and a character who came to life, arghh...sorry if this sound more confusing. I've read The Body while I was in high school and was only tidbits of the movie and the book at the same time. But I do know The Body was made into a movie and Stand by me was one of the songs, because its the song the group of misfits of boys, gordon and his pals sings. I remember there was a even a dog in the junkyard that chases them or something. Sorry, am no help. @_@

I just read your comments on Stephen King's the stand. This book comes from what I would consider his best period of writing. I think children of the corn and the movies were awful, although the short story wasn't bad. This book shows why King became a consistent best-selling novelist. It is a sweeping tale of a post armageddon world. The original version was cut by his publisher, the full volume is now readily available and recommended. For me, 'Salem's Lot, It, and The Stand are among his very best and none of his recent efforts can hold a candle to any of these
It is good, too. My other favorites are Thinner and Different Seasons ( I love all the stories in it, The Body is so good, especially the movie-Stand By Me)
Pet Sematary is my fave among King's work. That gave me nightmares. Its more scary watching. You would think that there's a dead baby out there with a surgical knife. hehe ^_^

thanks for your thoughts on "girl with a pearl earring." i think what made "girl in hyacinth blue" okay for me rather than great was the speed at which each story passed by. i thought vreeland was pretty creative with the vignettes themselves, but i love getting to know characters, and it just moved too fast. i wanted to see jantje grow up more, know more about his mother, know what happened with the professors at the beginning. i guess that's part of the story though - that each person's story is short compared to the journey of the painting, and the painting was the main character. anyway, those were my thoughts - thanks for asking!
