Mel- I read Murakami's "After Dark". It was good but I enjoyed Kafka better. I read "The Book Thief", It was so tragic. Words... so powerful. Leissel was such a beautiful little girl and I loved her papa Hans, such a good man. Great book!
Isn't "Blindness" frightening! I just finished "Mystic River" by Dennis LeHane, same guy who wrote "Shutter Island". I haven't seen the movie "Mystic River", have you? I'm reading "After Dark" now, by Haruki Murakami. I like the way he writes and this book is pretty good although I liked "Kafka on the Shore" better.
Mel- I read "The Tenth Circle". I was hooked pretty early into the story, but then it just seemed to go nowhere and I just ended up irritated. Some people really like her and she's pretty popular, too predictable for me. I've been looking for nre authors myself. I read a coulple of Charles DeLindt (sp?). Fair reading, good story, just definately written by a chauvanistic male. I just finished "The Mermaids singing" by a Scottish Mystery writer named Val McDermid. Real good story with well developed characters, but, very violent. Like "Silence or The Lambs" violent. Hope this helps.shel
Hey Mel, I'm having fun checking out the books you're reading. You inspire me to read more regional books like the one on the five stories of Egyptian women. "The Practice of the Presence of God" was very meaningful to me, I read it a long time ago. Read East of Eden as soon as you can. Just hearing the tite makes me get goosebumps I love it so much. Are you in full swing at school yet? Travis and I leave Saturday for Tirana. Hope all is well! Amy
Melanie, I am FINALLY getting the chance to check out this site -- it is very cool! I love seeing (with book covers) the books you've read and what you plan on reading. I've got Three Cups of Tea on my bedside table, given to me and recommended by my sister and sister-in-law. There are two children's lit books in front of it, but I hope to start it soon. Thanks again for inviting me here! Looking forward to seeing you! Ann
What a cool site..thanks for inviting me. I will figure it out later when I've got a bit of time to do this!
