    Hi Janet,
    It's been a while since I read American Gods. It is kind of dense, but I did enjoy it and was able to finish it. On the other hand - while it goes against all my OCD tendencies :-) , I can't see spending time on a book you're not enjoying. Life is short - read only what you really want to read - there are plenty of books out there. You could try putting it down, now, and trying again another time, too. Best luck, my friend!
