I just tried to order The Monk through the library and they don't carry it! Is it worth trying to get my hands on?
Stillness Speaks is not bad, just not what I was looking for. It's a collection of little meditations, you may like it though since you seem to enjoy the Buddhist kind of books. I really liked the thoughts, I'm just searching for something more I guess. I agree - New Earth felt wordy to me too. Power of Now was amazing and I think it's one of the best metaphysical books out there. It's beena couple years since I read it, but working on dismissing the ego from myself and taking out any sense of past is always good. I find that many of the books (Eckhart, Chopra, and others) handle the same idea but say it in so many different ways. I haven't read the Monk who sold his Ferrari - I saw it on your shelf - is it good? There's another good book that you may enjoy since you like the metaphysical thinking. It's by Byron Katie and it's called...Loving What Is. It's an interesting thought process - takes a moment to get into it, but I think you will like the overall message. I think I need to re-read Now and take another look at Loving What Is. Those are two very worth it books. I also really like Chopra's Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire - that was one of my favorites by him. I like the message within that there is no such thing as coincidence. That has played a big part in my life when I allow it to. When you become aware of what is happening around you, there are no coincidences, everything is there and happening for a reason. Some people seem to think that idea means that you have no role in your life and what happens, I find it a comforting thought. Ok, I think I'm rambling on and on so I'll stop. Let me know about that monk book.
You have some interesting looking books on your shelf. I love Deepak Chopra's books, but I don't think I've read The Book of Secrets. Do you remember anything about it?
Hey Jonathan! Did you read A New Earth too? If so, which did you like better, that or Power of Now? I think Power of Now was more metaphysical and deep. It was my favorite.
