The Hunger Games is a "young adult" novel. Katniss, the hero, lives in a destroyed world where an evil government determines who has a lot and who goes hungry. Every year each "district" is required to offer up one boy and one girl to participate in "The Hunger Games" a fight to the death sort of sporting event. It is kind of like the games the ancient Romans used to have in the Colliseum.
Kat becomes the "Tribute" from her district and has to fight for her life against 23 other kids between the ages of 12-18. It is all televised for the entertainment of the "Capitol", the district not required to sacrifice their own children.
Kat is a powerful girl who loves her family and would do anything for them.
I liked the strong and noble characters who acted on what they believed.
I also loved the adventure and action and the author is quite gifted at describing these scenes.

The Book Thief and Sarah's Key are both about children caught in Europe in WWII.

I hope you get to travel someday too. It is possible if it is what you really want to do. I just got back from a short trip to San Diego and La Jolla, California. It was quite beautiful.

    Happy reading.

Hi! I saw that you were a fan of The Warriors! I really think you might enjoy my brand new book, THE FAMILIARS, out in bookstores everywhere now. It's about the magical animal companions to wizards and witches, and the main hero is a cat! Thanks :)

I don't think it's super futuristic....it's more a great story that has some science fiction added in like the hover boards and the operation to make them pretty. The story pretty much suck you in.
