I am coordinator of secondary communication arts for the St. Joseph, Missouri, School District and teach 7th grade communication arts at Bode Middle School. I most recently spent three years teaching 9th and 11th grade communication arts and journalism at Benton High School. Previously I taught middle school for 16 years, so I've spent a great deal of time reading young adult fiction with those teens. In addition, I'm constantly reading professional books related to the teaching of reading and writing, as well as information literacy; books dealing with best practices in education; and those about curriculum, instruction and assessment. « less
