Tony Varrato

YA author of two 2009 YALSA Quick Picks for Reluctant readers: FAKIE and OUTRAGE.

I usually like to read equally fast-paced books, but I like some variety as well.

My shelf shows the books I've read this summer. Since I also teach high school English, this is the only time I really get to read. more »

I liked this. I thought it took longer to get into than his others. But overall it was entertaining.

Very cool. I think it deserves a place next to "A Separate Peace" for self discovery novels.

I've really liked all the Cross series this far. However, this one seemed a little too much. I appreciated the life in Africa idea, but I don't think it quite fit. I did love the last 100 pages. They were classic, can't-put-it-down Patterson.

    This is funny!
A girl is time warped back to ...the 70's in all their polyester splendor.

    Well...
I think it's a literary masterpiece that could promote global harmony and align the planets.

    Read this NOW!

A brilliantly written story about teen suicide without turning melodramatic.
We learn as Clay does why he is on the "list" and what part all 13 people played in one girl's suicide.

I want this for my classroom.

A funny, clever book about a skater (don't call him a skateboarder, it's not cool)whose life changes when he impregnates his girlfriend. Luckily he has Tony Hawk's autobiography to lead him through life.

A surprisingly funny but male-accurate book about about life as a 16-year-old potential father.

There's a reason everyone's read this book. It's an amazing story.

And aside from the touching redemption story, I learned a whole lot about Afghanistan. I didn't pick this book up in order to get a sociology lesson, but I understand the country and people a lot more after reading this.

I highly recommend that everyone who still hasn't read this to read it now.
