Shizuka Girl

Shizuka Girl

I've loved books all my life. I can remember my mom taking me to the library when I was just a little kid and checking out stacks of books. Read my first Stephen King novel at the age of nine. It was Carrie. I had bought it for my older brother's birthday and couldn't resist the temptation to read it first. :) After that I was hooked.... more »

The Doorkeepers sounds cool. I'll have to look that one up. I haven't been reading nearly as much as I'd like to, either. It seems like all my time gets spent between kids, work, and writing.

The Eppie was definitely awesome. My publisher was great enough to fly out to Las Vegas for the ceremony. I couldn't get off work. So they called me at 1 in the morning to tell me. It's mainly been nice to have a few new people notice the book. I'm still new enough at this that it's a thrill every time someone takes time to read what I wrote.

Thanks for the book suggestion! I hope we can trade many more in the future. And definitely keep up with me on myspace, too. Always great to have a good book friend.

Just popping in to say hi! I've been so busy writing the last few months I've barely had time to get on Shelfari. But I finally sent the next novel off to the publisher, so I'm back and looking for a good book to read. Have you been keeping up with Koontz? How's his newer stuff?

Thanks. :) Yup I'm planning on going to the MOPPS mtg. Hopefully I'll be able to get enough sleep in order to wake up early enough to get to it on time. This baby has been kicking the crap outta me every time I go to bed and my legs have been swollen and in pain for the past 2 days. Oh the joy of pregnancy!!! Hey I have that DVD I made for you of Kyle's birthday. Lemme know when you want me to get it to you. I'll try and remember to bring it to the MOPPS mtg if I don't see you before then.

I agree! There is never enough time to read as much as I want to! I see by your pic you have a little one and I know you stay busy! So do I. As a matter of fact I'm about to go pick up my little girl at school, and thankfully I have the time to read while wating in line to pick her up! Yay for waiting in line! lmao.

I read those books about 9 years ago, but enjoyed every single page! Maybe I'll get to them again someday, although I usually don't re-read a book, my memory is really good. :-) Talk to you soon.

Hi, saw you were talking about Anne Rice's books like Lasher, Taltos, etc. Lasher is the best of the entire series, I think. That was my all-time fav book by her. And I've read them all, but Lasher stuck with me even after I finished reading it. :-)

Hey Shizuka, How are you? Sorry it's taken me this long to get back to you but I've been offline for a while dealing with a family emergency here. Thankfully all is well now and I'm able to get back home and online.
October has snuck up on me here. I dont know how September went by so quickly. But I'm celebrating this week at my blog if you want to stop by Http://ladyvampire2u.blogspot.com . It's my first contest online in honor of Halloween.
Well, I'll post this now. You take care and have an awesome day there. ~LV~

Thanks! By the way I just finished The Historian and it left me with a so-so feeling. Definitely an interesting read, but not as scary overall as I was hoping it would be. Have you read a lot of Anne Rice? I honestly haven't checked her out in years. After reading the first four in the vampire series I moved on to other authors. Does she have any other stand-out novels I should look at?

I agree, though I don't really believe she stopped writing it, because when you stop writing it's harder to start again, she may just postpone the release date.

I know, I also thought that Jacob imprinting on Renesme was creepy. Yes I did read the first 12 chapters of Breaking Dawn, you can read it on Stephenie Meyers' website. No, I plan to eventually read The Host, but not yet.

Go to stepheniemeyer.com & she's put up the 12 chapters that were leaked rather than have than spread virally on the Net. You can download them as a pdf file, but it will not print if you try to make a paper copy to give your eyes a rest from the glaring computer screen.

Thanks for saying hi! I'm about two-thirds of the way through The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. It's a very different kind of horror novel. This is about a fictional historian's search for the "real" Dracula who may still be alive and how the vampire lore works into it. There's not a lot of jump-out scares in it so far, but she does an awesome job of keeping the creepy atmosphere heightened all the way through.

I do have my one book published, called Pit-Stop. Hope to have another one out next year. We'll see how well this one does first. Keep your fingers crossed for me :)

I liked just about everything that happened, but I did have a hard time adjusting to Bella being a vampire, I think I still am, I'm just used to the whole blushing and heartbeat thing, but I'm glad Edward can now relax and not worry about killing her. I felt the whole thing was kind of rushed, she could have easily split the final book in two and went further into depth with what happened. I hoped the Volturi would die, but then the Cullens would probably take over, and then there would be more conflict, and protecting Bella would all be in vain. Also leaving the Volturi alive means that there could possibly be a final surprise book.

Thanks for giving me your take on Twilight. I havent started the books yet but will soon. As for other paranormal romances being less sweet, I can definitely see your point. Sweet and vamps or zombies or werewolves, etc just normally dont go together. But I do have some suggestions for books based on that. Have you ever tried Marjorie M Liu's books? I find them full of hope and love. There is romance of course but it's filled with a joy and is less dark. More meaningful if you can understand what I'm trying to say. Also C. L. Wilson has a new series out. It's outstanding. Very heartfelt while written in an action packed storyline. Definitely worth checking out. And I promise you that those two authors might have bad guys in the books but nothing is completely ugly and gross like what you described to me with the cat incident in the "You Suck" book. I think I, like you, would have done the same thing and stopped reading. There are just some things best left unwritten about. I've come across stuff like that occassionally but its been rare thankfully.
So you live on a military base overseas huh? My own brother recently came home from overseas. He was out in Afganistan fighting in the war. Thankfully he's home safe now. His wife is in the Air Force too though and recently she's been told she might have to travel to a new AF base which might be out of the US. As I am not the best person to travel in airplanes, I'm not sure how to feel about it all even though I really would like to see some of the world. Your in Japan though, one of the places I would like to visit. I've heard Japan has a special beach where the sand is musical. You walk on it and it makes music under your feet. I've always wanted to walk on that beach. Have you been to that beach? Just curious.
Well, I've written a lot so I better post this. Take care and have an fabulous day there. ~LV~
