Go for Paulo Coelho only if you want to read something philosophical yet which does not sound preachy. I myself, hate the preachy books something like Brain Tracy's or Robin Sharma's. They bore me a lot.

Paulo Coelho on the other hand says simple stories which have hidden morals, ethics and most importantly some basic rules of life which all need to follow. I have read the Alchemist, which is short and sweet and unfolds a nice message as the story progresses.

I am currently reading Brida which till now I assume is a story of how the questions of life can be unfolded, which is expressed through a girl. In the Alchemist, Paulo expresses the morals of life through a poor boy's story.

The main thing which attracts me towards Coelho is his simple narrative style which is lucid and has a really good flow of speech. It somehow captures your attention even if the story does not have much pace as in thrillers.

Try reading The Alchemist, since its a small story and see if you like it... although I doubt a horror fan to go through philosophical ones .... hehe

    Hi Kavita,

I too like intriguing stories, thrillers and am a big fan of Dan Brown. I wud like to know which of the books from the shelf is a best read after Dan Brown. Not much horror but thriller definitely wud do.

I tried Robert Ludlum but they are too lenghty and did not like 2 novels which i read of him.
