I saw a copy of the book on Amazon. I wish they'd show a plot description because it doesn't sound familiar to me from the title. I have a ton of her books because she's one of my favorites, but I don't remember that one. And you're right, it is "Stepping from the Shadow". At any rate, I'm sure you'll enjoy all of the ones you've listed and I'm going to be on the hunt for the others that I haven't read. Jim and I may go down to King's Books in Detroit. It's a seven story used book store. They have all kinds of fiction and one section devoted just to science fiction/fantasy. Maybe I'll find some there.
I have Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell and had started to read it last winter. I didn't finish it because she seems to explain everything so much that I got distracted. Maybe I'll try it again sometime. You'll have to let me know what you think of it.
Giana, if you like the Anne Rice vampire series, try Barbara Hambly's two books, "Those Who Hunt the Night" and "Travelling with the Dead." They are vampire tales with a little twist of humor in them, but with enough chills to satisfy your fear quotient. Barbara Hambly writes books that are very riveting, with protagonists who attract your sympathy right away and with very unique and exciting plots.
