I was highly anticipating the release of this book. I am an absolute Tim Winton-aholic. I have read almost all his books and will read all his new books. I felt that this book did not have the hold or draw that Cloudstreet or Dirt Music had. I didn't connect with the characters and didn't get the emotional affect of the other Winton master pieces. However, it was still an amazing book. Very easy to read and oh-so Australian. I thought it packed a bit more of a (deceptive) punch than the other books and I was a little taken aback by some parts. Definitely worth reading but not my favorite Tim Winton book, but then when an author has such amazing offerings, it cannot be expected that they will all be as good as each other.

I thought this book was good. But not great. I am a frequent (read, daily) visitor / reader of Lifehacker.com and I thought that the book didn't really offer me much more than the site did (and for nothing). A lot of the hacks in the book were very basic, but, the hacks that werent and provided a great idea in how to streamline your productivity certainly made up for the others.
I think the book is definately worth reading if, like me, you spend the majority of your day on a computer.

I thought this book was great. It is one man's approach to living a sustainable life. It is funny and a very easy read (while not being boring). It gives the reader further ideas on how they can live a more eco-friendly existence. However, there is no mention of the cost. It is evident that Doug Fine's "experiment" had a fairly hefty financial backing not available to most people. Apart from that, my only criticism about this book is that Doug tends to go off track a bit. When you start a chapter (and a topic is being introduced) it can take a long time for the topic to be discussed completely as Doug will waft in and out of topic. The book is also full of analogies and that gave me the impression that he was really trying to push the humour approach.
All in all, a great read. I have already lent the book out (I finished it today).
