My love of books began when I was a child mostly because both of my parents were avid readers. My husband and I both grew up in Massachusetts but we now live just outside San Antonio, Texas. My job at the local library is great but boy does it ever make my TBR shelf grow! I love making new friends, especially of the 'reading variety', so a... more »

    Hi Ellen,
I love the avatar you've chosen to display! Where did you find it? I have a blog on my computer at work and my 8th graders would love that cat.

If you go to the link above it will lead you to the book we used. We had a class though, so I didn't use the book much and can't tell you whether the instructions are particularly good or not. You use fusible web and then snip bits which are then pressed on to a background fabric, then border, quilt and bind. It's a lot of fun.

This one was lots of new things for me, a new pattern I hadn't done yet but a real easy one, and I quilted the "sandwich" myself with my regular machine! It was quite an undertaking fitting that bulk in but it worked. I'm sure I couldn't get anything bigger in and I'm also sure I couldn't have done any free motion except on the border (which I did). I quilted it with just diagonals through the squares.

I did a wall hanging for Christmas that was great fun. It used "snippets" have you heard of that? My mother liked it so much she "commissioned" me to make something for over her bed. I'll post my Christmas one as we get closer to the holiday. Oh and thanks for deleting the extra posts!

Yipes! I didn't mean all those extra answers and I can't seem to delete them. It wasn't posting so I hit post again; not the right thing to do I guess.

Yes, I did. I'm completely in love with quilting. I started shortly after I retired (about 16 month ago). Before then I hadn't even used a sewing machine for much of anything other than mending if I absolutely had to! I've made table runners, carry-all bags, and lap quilts. I'm working on some bed quilts now for Christmas. Thanks for noticing.

I'll have to give "Walk Two Moons" a try. Family research continues. I plan to spend my next half day in the San Antonio Geneology department. School for Stephanie appears to be going well. She says that she really likes that the classes are small. Her largest class is about 20. Last night was her first work day. She was getting depressed that we did not qualify for work study programs.

I haven't read "Walk Two Moons" is it a sequel? The last few days I've been elbow deep is family research. One library patron has convinced me apply for membership into the Daughters of the American Revolution. Scott thinks I'm crazy cause I've been up late almost every night this week.

Ellen, have you read that book about the library cat Dewey? I am looking for a good community read book that we can plan a year to 1/2 year of library events based on the book. Marley might be a good choice. What do you think?
