Reading is one of my favorite hobbies and has been pretty much all of my life along with shopping, photography and collecting music and movies. Today, I can read half a dozen or so books each month and still want more! It allows me to escape, to learn, empower myself and keep my mind fresh while enjoying the many ways of the written word. I've passed on my love for reading to my only child, just as my mother passed it on to me. She begin reading at an early age too and has always excelled in this area (and others), reading at higher levels than her classmates. We also enjoy playing board games, music and scrapbooking together.
I have always enjoyed both reading and writing. Growing up, they were my best and favorites subjects in school. I begin reading as young as four and remember how much I loved books and how the words became a real story and how they literally came to life for me, opening my mind with each and every page.
Even when I was a teenager I would loose myself in numerous books. Anything I could get my hands on - it didn't matter if it was a comic book, magazine, newspaper, a novel or something from my mom's Alfred Hitchcock or Harlequin romance stash, I would read it. Imagine my enthusiasm when I grew older and could choose to read what I wanted without restrictions or rules.
As a book collector, I find that I like to delve into many genres and enjoy mostly African-American authors because they speak on issues I can relate to specifically, as well as business growth and personal development books which is important for growth, direction and guidance. As you peruse the books on my shelf, there are many that you will not find, as I've forgotten many of the books I've read over the years. However my goal is to make my shelf as complete and accurate as possible while better documenting my life's readings as well as adding to my collection. I am excited to have found this website because it will force me to organize my books better, document my planned and past readings while sharing with others as I make friends.
As far as writing, naturally, the moment I saw my name in print - I knew I needed more. It was great knowing that others were reading something I wrote, words I created and crafted together to tell a story. I never feel exposed with my writing - just recognized and respected. From that very first byline, I decided to pursue a Journalism degree and do what I love.
Although I am a published writer, I have never penned a book and it is my life-long dream to do so. I enjoy writing about real life experiences or things that have been overlooked and things that are beneficial. I have several book ideas in the works, one completed book project with another near completion. I will undoubtedly move the masses with my writing and make a difference to someone, somewhere, through the turning of pages that I wrote.
I am a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and hold a MBA-Marketing degree from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree in Journalism from Central Michigan University.
