I really liked it but it has some ups and downs, part page turner, part of it drags just a little.

You are very welcome! I don't mind answering questions about books. Thanks to you and your mom for helping out. Everything counts. I will find out about my boys' trip when they return on Thursday (your Friday!). Happy reading!

Manda, I attempted to answer your Community Question and 'lost' the page, so I am posting this note in regard to your question:

The book narrates the story of a couple of days in his sixteen-year-old life, just after he's been expelled from prep school, in a slang that sounds edgy even today and keeps this novel on banned book lists. It begins,

"If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth. In the first place, that stuff bores me, and in the second place, my parents would have about two hemorrhages apiece if I told anything pretty personal about them."

His constant wry observations about what he encounters, from teachers to phonies (the two of course are not mutually exclusive) capture the essence of the eternal teenage experience of alienation.

If 9 year means first year of high school, or that you are 13-15, yes, this would be a good book for you to read.

Are you involved in any of the World Youth Day activities going on in Sydney? My two teenage sons are therewith a group from our church.

    Happy reading!

manda, good morning!! have a question to ask you...have you read twilight. it's a big series. i was speaking to my younger sister and she wants to read it. have you or any of your friends read it. i know it deals with vampires. not my favorite subject. only because once you read something it is stuck in your mind forever. i read once that is how one of the pow survived. he didn't have much but he had all the books he had read in his mind, that is what kept his spirits up.
your assistance would be a great help!!
