Hi, Sherry--I just finished Charles Frazier's Nightwoods. Really liked it and think you would, too. He's got great characters who jump off the page with flesh, they're so real and the way he describes this small town in North Carolina and the mountains I found just about magical. Some of the same feeling I got with Cold Mountain, but that's one of my all-time favorites and hard to beat. Going to try Thirteen Moons next. Hope all is good for you and Jim in this hustle-bustle time--Leslie
Sherry--Thanks for following me or "friending" me, whatever. And special thanks for the support and advice about Mom. Hope you and Jim have a great Thanksgiving. Best, Leslie
Nice to see your shining shelf! I see we have about 10% of our books in common -- not bad! I look forward to seeing what your new favorites are.
Hi Sherry, thanks for your note. We've been away on vacation, so I'm behind on my Shelfari reading. The self-portrait was done for a local show. I took a digital picture of myself, then drew the picture simply, rather like a stained glass window. I assigned each piece a color/value. I took an old atlas and glazed some pages with acrylic paint, and then made tissue paper pattern pieces for each shape. Then I cut out each shape of the glazed maps, and glued them together like a jig-saw puzzle. I can't think what possessed me! And yes, I'd be happy to be your Shelfari friend.Sherry
