Are you involved with any book clubs/groups locally? I'm in one with some friends in Ithaca, but we meet only every 6-7 weeks. I'd love to find one a little closer to home.
Hi Lisa! I really enjoyed Eden Close. Did I ever! What I found to be different, yet appealing was the sparsity of characters. Anita Shreve worked with little to produce a richness within the book in the relationships, secrets, dramatic moments, and romance that she created. I read Strange Fits of Passion recently and whew....it's almost a toss up between that one and Eden Close. Dare I say I liked it even better? I am going to write a review on it someday lol, but I found it to be raw in its look at domestic abuse, and actually frightening because the main character has an infant to look out for while she is on the run from her monster of a husband. Shreve again is adept at presenting the reader with uncomfortable questions about BOTH sides of the story. What I like most about Shreve's writing is that her endings are not always happy....they are real, know what I mean? Again, thanks for the note several weeks back. What did you think of Strange Fits of Passion?
Hello!!! I added some books that I finished reading... send me your updated spreadsheet so I can add mine to it...
I'm glad to see that you rated Shelter Me a five star book. That one has been on my nightstand for some time and I'm excited to get into it. I agree with The Year of Fog too....three stars. It had such potential with a grasping story line but then fell flat at the end I found.
Oooo, you read Glenn Beck's new book I see. His first foray into fiction. I have more than glanced at that book when at the bookstore, and will take your five star rating into mind. :-)
I update my shelf, just for you! :D
Well, I decided on "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini for the Sept. book club. (I had posted about that on the fiction board :-) I am planning on checking out that board again to chat about books, books, books.
I would love to find time to read more books. Looks like you've been very busy though. Got any suggestions on a really good book.
Lisa, You've been busy adding books!! Yay! This site is a gem, I love it and hope you will too. Shelfari is continually (now that they are partnered with Amazon) improving the site to make it more user friendly. I'll "see" you on the fiction boards :-)
