The emotional abuser part reminds me a little of Olive Kitteridge, which I just read, and the Ladder of Years, with the disappearing mother reminds me of Places to Stay the Night and some other book that I can't remember, where the main character goes to a home for unwed mothers (this is in the early 60's) after running out on her husband, and then keeps the baby, gets married, and works at this same home.
I absolutely LOVED this book. It was very different --and very enjoyable. I am not a car racing fan--and I have to admit I know very little about that "sport". And this story is being told from a dog's point of view--which was wonderfully original. The book does deal with some sad life events - but again, as seen through a dog's eyes. A great choice - IMO!!
I liked The Beach House pretty well. There were a couple of surprises in the plot that kept it interesting. I've just barely started Revolutionary Road so I can't give an opinion yet. I would like to go see My Sister's Keeper, although I may not be back yet that weekend from Ohio (where I am now). I will get in touch when I return and we can go if you haven't already seen it.
Thanks for returning the Boleyn Inheritance - although you didn't really have to; it was a book that was being passed along. I see you didn't like it compared to The Other Boleyn Girl - that's interesting as I didn't see that much disparity between the two.
Hi Anne, ... I don't think I can hang out before school. I am going on vacation to Savannah GA. but you never know what will happen after that. I just got back from my parents. I help them out - they live in CHville in a big old rancher and I help them stay there - they are 91 and 86 see ya. keep reading
Well, I just finished Queste and I'm currently reading the Keys to the Kingdom and then I'll read The Prophet of Yonwood. They're actually all kids books (at least, I pick them up in the kids section, though I enjoy them immensely so they're obviously for adults as well. ;-) ).
The difference between you and me is I don't buy many books. just go to the library. Will keep you posted as to my book needs as they arise. I have to stop reading comfort books. I am currently reading the No 1 ladies detective agency series (again) in audio. They are very comforting as I drive and they go well with coffee and a chocolate bar..... more later.
