I read this book because my US history teacher mentioned that John F. Kennedy read it during the Cuban Missile Crisis. This book, the story of the first month of World War I, won the Pulitzer Prize in Non-Fiction. In a very small nutshell, it's the story of how a bunch of guys in charge f-ed up the world in their quest for power and glory. It is very well written, although some of the sections on troop movements, maneuvers and battle strategies left my head spinning. The human element Tuchman writes about is the best part of the book. Indeed, the whole cause of the war was human weakness. In the end you feel the same dread that the world must have felt at the end of August 1914.
