What is a Neo Pagan?I myself don't really have a label. Do I believe... yes. But not in any organized way. A friend of mine once told me I act Christian without the belief system. I laughed at her. I love the books of Chaim Potok because of the culture of Jewish Hasidism. My wife's side of the family is ultra Christian... full of pastors. I'm kind of the rouge son-in-law that stole her away. She and I both feel that organized religion is too good at excluding people.I can't remember which novel comes first, the Promise or the Chosen, but it deals with a genius who is supposed to follow his father and become a Rabbi. But of course he doesn't want this. These are great novels because they deal with how individulas come to terms with religion and family expectation, at least for Jewish people.Take care
Based on your comments and your bookshelf, you might consider The Queen's Thief series, by Meghan Whalen Turner. The only bummer about these books is that the author doesn't write very often. This series is finished at least.Reading these books is like a gift. They are perfect. A friend of mine recommended them to me, and she is a very independent female. Also, have you heard of some of the things Pullman has said about Christianity? I just mention it because of some of the books on your shelf. A colleague of mine majored in religious studies at Wheaton. He claimed that Pullman was out to destroy organized religion. He's a smart man, too (my colleague). I didn't believe everything he said, but it warrants at least a little research.
