NeptuneTide

Hmm...what to say? I am a high school librarian and (duh) I love to read ;) I'll read just about anything that piques my interest. I enjoy gardening, writing when I find my muse, and relaxing every chance I can get. I'm a romantic at heart and a quiet person. I am interested in ancient Japanese culture, ancient history, and mythology. I... more »

  • Purple Mountain Majesties: The Story of Katharine Lee Bates and "America the Beautiful
    • Rated 3 stars

An interesting and fairly short story about how "America the Beautiful" came to be.

Although short, the questions asked are thought provoking and ones many of us have probably pondered upon one time or another. A good discussion starting book!

  • Nubs : a mutt, a Marine & a miracle

While this is a picture book in the sense it's full of pictures, this book is more for middle school-up age group. I happened across this book while passing some time in Target and I was thrilled that there was about about this story (I remember reading about this online). This is a wonderful picture book about Nubs and his love for Brian. I couldn't believe this dog walked 70 miles in the desert alone just to be with his friend...what love! If anyone has time to spare, read this book!

I've read this book several times growing up and as a middle school librarian and I never get tired of it. What better book is there to illustrate the scrafices of love and the enduring friendship?!

    Belle

    by Cameron Dokey
    • Rated 4 stars

I really enjoyed this book! It's the only book in the Once Upon a Time series I've read. One thing I noticed was the story wasn't too original. Many parts seemed straight out of Robin McKinley's versions. Even so, I enjoyed this retelling more because it wasn't overly drawn out. I would have liked to have read more about the Beast and more about their (him and Belle) time together. If you're a fan of Beauty and the Beast this book is worth setting aside some time for.

  • The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson
    • Rated 3 stars

It has been a long time since I've read any poetry by Emily Dickinson. I decided to give his book 3 stars because this collection of poetry contains works about many of the subjects she writes about. The afterword by Drera Fried of Cornell University is worth reading because she (clearly) explains Dickinson's writing style, interpretations, and they way she viewed herself.

This manga follows the book very well. It's interesting to see the illustrators take on the characters. If you're a fan of the Maximum Ride series then you'll love this!
