I am a total bibliophile. I read everything from the classics to comtemporary and prefer Eastern and Western European writers for the most part. I love to discover new authors and ideas so if you have any suggestions, please share them :0)

Sounds like a nice experience - the wedding, not coming home I mean. I was at a prety crazy wedding at a castle in southern France once, we had Tapas until midnight, and then it turned out that was the starters, so then we had to get to the table and eat a five course meal until 3 in the morning. Then the dancing started. At around 5:30 there was dessert ...

Youth in revolt, huh ? Aren't they making a movie out of that one ? I will try to find that one. And hey, your love for eastern european authors is a great thing, I moght get round to Ivan Klima, who had just been a name for me. A cool name, but still just a name.

So, for movies, I lately checked some movies with old heroes trying to get a late change in career, Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler and Jean-Claude Van Damme in JCVD. The latter was a quite funny, very self-ironic movie with a kind of touching little speech by JCVD in the middle. I guess you saw the Wrestler, but if you didn't - do. Excellent movie. Also saw the Hurt Locker. Finally a good Iraq movie.

Am I ready for the Holidays ? Not really, I will have a week of vacation in November first, and bring wife and kid to my swedish family. For xmas it looks like we're going to Paris. And you ?

    Hi Maggie,

Been a while, so I'm just checking in how things are going. Did you manage to get out of the city and your mindnumbing job yet ? Well, there are always books to cheer you up. See that you plan to read White Teeth. Great book ... anything you can recommend by the way ? Not that I really need it, I won't see the bottom of my current pile before christmas anyway, but you know, advice from people with good taste is always welcome ....

    Take Care,

Have fun in SF by the way. Thought I was going there myself, but my company has to save money so there will be some webbased events instead. Bah.

Hi again. No Söderberg has not been around for the last 58 years, so it is another writer. But I don't mind, as long as he has his own take and style. And it is not really a sequel, since it is actually the same story. On the contrary, the fact that it is told from inside another head makes it kind of natural to have a different author. I saw the story of Salinger and I can not really say that I tink he hsa much of a case. Heäs basically just taking the character and putting hin in a new context. I find it a quite interesting idea. Art nowadays is anyway infinitely selfreferential, more cut and paste than handicraft. I like that in a way, the strength of an artist should be in what (s)he expresses, not the means (s)he uses to express it.

Hi Maggie, good to hear from you. Really glad that you liked Dr Glas as well, it's quite an amazing book. There is a book written only a few years ago that tells the same story but from Gregorius (the creepy priests) perspective. Not quite as good of course but actually not so far off either. Doubtful if it wil ever be translated though, but after you've done your studies in Sweden you can read it in original language :)

Move went fine, we are almost in a livable apartment now with only a few boxes hanging around. It is a great apartment, and it has a big terrace. I feel like on vacation every day there.

    Be well!

Hi there! I'm just dropping by to welcome you to The 100+ Book Challenge. The idea of the group is pretty much self explanatory - try to read 100 or more books in a one year period. If you do have any questions, please feel free to send a message to me or Tenia. In the meantime, good luck reaching your goal!

Welcome to 1001 books. You can keep track of the books you have read from the book, 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die here and join in the discussions on the books we are reading for the month (from the book) or you can argue the merits of the list as some enjoy doing. We hope you will want to join in our discussions. The current books are at the top of the list for that month. If there is any way I can answer your questions about the group or about Shelfari, let me know.
If you don’t own the book the list can be found http://www.listology.com/content_show.cfm?content_id=22845
