Hi Lori,I hope you are doing well. Your ears were probably burning recently. I have been working hard to sell our TPN business with payers. Penny and I both miss your expertise and enthusiasm.I saw that you added City of Thieves to your shelf. Be sure to let me know how you like it. I picked it up at an airport book store and couldn't put it down! Piper
I am so sorry to hear that you are leaving CCS. Given your background, I am sure you have many, many opportunities. I wished we could have worked together more, but wish you the very best. Thanks for thinking about my dad. Everyone is a bit anxious about it.Please keep in touch via Shelfari! Thanks so much for your great recommendations.Piper
Wow! I don't even have that on my shelf! I will put it on right now. I am currently reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by the author of The Kite Runner. I just started it, but should make some headway tomorrow. I am flying to San Diego in the morning. My dad is having heart valve replacement surgery on Tuesday. I will pick up The Book Theif while I am out there.I am sure I told you that I finished The Tender Bar, and really liked it. I am so glad he was able to find success as a writer. Also, Shelby joined Shelfari. Did she add you to her friends list yet?Piper
Lori,THANK YOU for sending me Bel Canto! I learned about this book from a friend and have wanted to read it for about a year. I am so glad that my Secret Santa is also a new friend! My husband brought it in from the mailbox and said "Who do you know in Arizona?" I reminded him that we had a office in Phoenix, but I didn't think anyone would send me something from there. When I looked at the return address, I knew exactly who it was from!I am not going to be traveling for about a month. I have been asked to take over our Human Resources department after the first of the year until we find a replacement for the Director. Very scary - I am no HR specialist, but there are lots of people to ask questions to. Never thought I would be GLAD to be able to get back on the road, but I will be ready when I get through with this stint!Again, thanks for the book. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season.Pepi
LoriJust to make you jealous, I am home ALL this week. In fact, it is almost 8 am, and I am still in my pj's. Of course, I have checked email...(sigh - it's all still there).I visited Tuscon last year and really liked it alot. Went to the national cactus park, (OK - I was a tourist) and was fascinated! I go to Phoenix about once a year on business but never get much of anywhere else in AZ. I am always shocked about the difference between south GA hot and AZ hot. I think I pick AZ dry hot. I live in a steam bath about 8 months a year! Just picked my first James Patterson book off my library's download site - 3rd Degree. Seems like a good one for my MP3 player to take to the gym. I also clean house with it in my ear! Get more done that way. Strange, I know. Also reading Amagansett - about a murder in a fishing town. It is in discussion in the GoodReads group here. (though I may have already missed most of the discussion!)Have a good weekend in Boston. Bet it is pretty there this time of year. Pepi
Lori, I peeked at your note to Claire and saw that you said you traveled for work and spent time in hotels and airplanes. I do as well, and thought we might want to be friends. Looks like you have a lot of books that I call "airplane" books. Those are the ones that you read so intently that you are startled when the landing gear goes down! I live in Georgia and generally travel by car through GA and SC. But end up on a plane at least once a month. Lots of Hampton Inns! I wake up in the morning and try to figure out which way the bathroom is.......LOLPepi
Believe it or not, I am having trouble getting through it. I think this is because JR is close to my son's age. I just keep thinking how awful it would be if Hayden was in that same situation. JR loves his mother so much, and Hayden is sort of that way as well. When she sent him back to NY for the summer, I was pratically crying b/c I just could not imagine being apart from Hayden like that. Of course, that is a completely ridiculous thought pattern but it keeps getting my way of really enjoying the book. I am not very far along as a result but I am eager to continue because you and many others say they loved it!
You must be Lori D. from CCS!!!! I just bought The Tender Bar and can't wait to start it. I am glad you joined Shelfari!
great picture- you have a sunny smile!
