Marcel, I am right now reading the Nubian Prince - a Spanish author and am really liking it! Ironic and strangely witty on a very serious topic - immigration of course. My other suggestion from what I have read this year is Lost City Radio by Daniel Alarcon. I would also recommend the Short Wonderful Life of Oscar Wao. And the fiction that I always recommend as some of my all-time favorites is The Sparrow, Geek Love, Blindness. Other good ones include: Water for Elephants, Bel Canto ... I'll keep thinking. Yeah - add some fiction - you'll be glad you did.
Hi Marcel. You wrote that you are going to read Blink and Shock Doctrine. I recommend them both highly but warn you that Shock Doctrine is a huge project - it's good to read it as you have something else going. It's really educational and dense and intense. I especially liked the Latin American chapters. It is a very very important book to read. And Blink is just a cool way to look at intuition. But I am needing more fiction for the time being. Anything you recommend?
Thanks for the note about shelfari. It got me back on the site. I have to remember what Bruno always says. Änn it`s not a competetion! but I do appreciate knowing what others are reading and I`m going to head to the English library here and see if they have a few of your suggestions
