I like Valdez-Rodriguez's writing style, and love her characters. The whole time I was reading it I wondered who would play these characters in the movie. I especially love the slam on Jennifer Lopez, with the "Jill Sanchez" character. Especially since the guy she was engaged to was quite similar to Ben Affleck....Rodriguez simply stated what I've felt all along about J'Lo, was that she uses every opportunity personally as a publicity stunt, and really has no genuine talent.

Other than that, I thought it was OKAY. Still love Dirty Girls Social club better, and would like to see her branch out more, away from the whole "chick lit" vibe. She is very witty and intelligent, read her blog.

I picked this book up at the library, wondering what the fuss was about. Well, I'm still wondering.

The characters were boring and two-dimensional. It is clearly meant for a younger audience (I'm in my 30's). JK Rowling, who wrote the Harry Potter series is clearly a better writer than Stephanie Meyer, and those books were written for an even YOUNGER audience. I'm tired of female characters in books and movies needing to be rescued and protected. If you want to read a GOOD vampire series, you can never go wrong with any Ann Rice novel, or if you like your Vampire stories light and funny, read the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. Sookie is at least intelligent, and although does at times need rescuing, she does the rescuing herself.

Love love loved this! Laurie Notaro is incredibly funny and witty. I especially loved the stories about her young neighbors who would not leave her alone. Must-read!

This book speaks to a specific audience, but I believe it can be enjoyed by Non-Latinos. Cisneros has a style all her own. I"d also like to know why keyblader erica thought it was "sucky". Could you elaborate?
