The Lust Lizard sounds like it has a funny and unique plot.
Sorry for the delay in responding. "Strength in What Remains" is a riveting book, especially the first half, when Deo is growing up in Burundi and then making his escape. The second half is more about the nuts and bolts of making it in the US - it starts off strong, but kind of peeters out as Deo makes it up to the present. I think the book is worth reading, but the story is not complete, as Deo's life is a work in progress. I have not read "Mountains...", Tracy Kidder's other Paul Farmer book (that I know about); maybe it is better, I don't know.
You may borrow it. I'll try to bring it to school.
Yes, it's me and I agree about the tired at night. I just got up off the couch after crashing. Bud made pancakes for dinner which put me right out. So now I really need to do some work to get ready for tomorrow. I haven't been reading for pleasure at all, just keep on working. I have a student teacher who is great and that helps and also makes me try harder so that he can actually learn something from me. We had a great visiting artist lesson today. She had the kids drawing quickly with 2 different colors of crayons. She'd say draw a cat, then in a minute or so, she'd say, now stop working on the cat and draw an apple tree, etc., on and one for about 10 minutes. The kids were frustrated at first but when they caught on they'd draw more quickly and finish and be ready when she'd call out the next item to draw. It was really fun. I'm trying to buy a rental up in Santa Rosa and it's taking all my extra time. I need to go see if I got an insurance quote from my Farme's gal online. Bye for now....Sandy
Hi Judy,I like People of the Book very much. We read it for book club and it was well received by everyone. I have it if you'd like to borrow it. Let me know and I'll drop it off somewhere...
I haven't heard of that book, but I'll look it up and read the description. I'm posting a new book this weekend,' Fieldwork'. I'll try to write a brief review on it. It was a unique book by a talented new author who lived in Thailand.
I haven't gotten very far into the book, however, to date it seems to be in a slightly different style than she normally writes. Hope all is going well with school.Robin
Leon and the Spitting Image looks like another fun book.
The River Wife seems rather interesting. I might have to put that on my 'to read' list.
I believe you would enjoy this book. I love the contrast between the hippie, druggie commune to the hardships of Alaska. Wait and see who makes it. TC Boyle is a unique writer. I have enjoyed everything I've read of his. I'm thinking about trying the Women of Frank L Wright (can't remember the exact name of the book, but it's similar to this.) If I can locate it I'll let you borrow it. I may have already loaned it out.
Hi Judy - You're certainly welcome to borrow my copy if you'd like. Let me know...
I am truly impressed with the number of books you've read! Reminds me of our chats at Sample Meadows, where you always had interesting additions to the book discussions. I only add the ones I am going to read, if the suggestion has come from someone-that way I don't forget the title.R
Hey Judy what's up? how many stars do you give those books you're reading?
