“Certainly worth a read..This is a collection of short stories which are interrelated due to the fact that it is based in a Parsi dominated apartment-block somewhere in Mumbai.I liked reading the stories as individual stories rather than as a volume. A few stories are absolute gems and I specifically liked the way the author has captured the nuances of Parsis. The ones that i appreciated most were Auspicious Occasion , Condolence Visit & The Paying Guests ”
“Beautifully written..Love reading most of Anita Desai's books”
“Okay for light reading on boring days..not too engrossing”
“Randomly picked this one from a library and liked reading it”
“So un-down-puttable!... ;) .. Fast,racy,intriguing..You would not want to be disturbed reading this one!”
“Beautifully written!! This book is amusing ,witty and very interesting..For someone who is interested in Mahabharata and knows the hows and whos of the Indian political struggle, this one would be a great find. I found it a tad too long though... but definitely worth a read..”
“This is a good book but too disturbing. I could not complete reading it. ”
“This is a difficult read. It leaves you disturbed and at times digsusted. Extremely well written but the story and the details of each incident were just too much to handle. I did not enjoy reading this.”
“Nice read... This one makes you really sad though. I picked this because I had seen the Kite Runner movie based on a book by the same author. ”
“I picked this book because I was intrigued with the plot of the first story. I love the short story format but this book was disappointing. I really am dragging myself now hoping to find some story that I like here. Probably a case of "Dont judge a book by its cover"”
