eh, eragon is going a bit slow for me...but I kind of got addicted to the Shana Abe books! I still have a good two weeks+ left so I'm still hoping to make it through! I also have You Slay Me by Kate McAlister...

Have you read any other dragon books?

I think I'm glad that I didn't go for it, then. I talked to another friend (not on shelfari), who said it might be a bit too much fantasy for me (me being not that much into fantasy to begin with!). I haven't yet read Twilight, but I've borrowed it and New Moon (that's the second one, right?) from a friend, so I'll get to them soon.

The ones I read for dragons were Dragonsong, which was o.k. I didn't mind it, but I don't plan to continue the trilogy. The other one I read, I really liked though - The Two Sisters of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine, who also wrote Ella Enchanted and Fairest. You can read my reviews in the reviews thread if you want.

The one I ruled out, simply because I won't be able to get it through the library, is Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett. I read one book by him about 10 years ago for a class. It was pretty funny. I don't remember getting overly excited about the story, but the book was funny.

Don't know if any of that helps you for the dragon tag, but there you go...You can always look back through the Recommendation Game thread or the Reading Plans and Suggestions thread, too. I know, it's more limiting when you depend on the library, though.... Good luck, whatever you decide. Hope you enjoy it if you do pick up a dragons book!

Hi Julie. Did you get Eragon yet? Have you started reading it? Just curious what you think... Or have you tried something else instead? I just ended up reading two dragon books, and I will stop there. The third potential one I was thinking of is not currently available at my library and doesn't look like it will be anytime soon. I have moved on to a book I've borrowed from a friend instead. It's a long one, and maybe would have come in handy for the next game - extra points for 500+ pages, but it does take me a while to read, though. :-( Did you sign up for the next game?

Hi Julie. Not quite my birthday yet (not till December) - are you confusing me with someone else, I wonder? serenity (the shelver before me) has her b-day coming up in a couple of days... Thanks for the thought anyway, though! ;-)

The Anne McCaffrey books - I have only picked up one so far - Dragonsong. Just picked it up yesterday, but I'm finishing off another book first (nothing to do with PBT), then I'll move on to it and my other dragon book after that. I haven't read any of her other books, so I can't tell you anything about those. I'm one of the PBT players who is not a big fan of fantasy, so we'll see what I think of the two I have picked out so far. There are even a couple others I'm eyeing, so who knows!

You'll be reading Eragon? I thought about that one, then ruled it out. But, normally for a tag I'm not excited about, I usually only read one book anyway, so two will be plenty, and I may even read more than that! We'll see.

    Hi Julie,

I did read the whole book and for me, it was definitely in the life changing category. I will say that I thought the first chapter AND the last chapter did the book a big disservice - - both struck me as mumbo-jumboness, but I ate up the in-between stuff.

However, I think this is the type of book that is going to resonate much better with you if you happen to have the following characteristics:

    - Are over 40
    - Had difficult experiences in your childhood

If you are not over 40 and had a fabulous childhood, I really wouldn't bother. The "over 40" part really pertains because I think you will be able to better relate to Tolle's examples. And the childhood part pertains because there is a large section of the book that discusses how a difficult childhood impacts you in your everyday life . . .and that was the part of the book I found to be the most useful.

Let me know what happens with the book, Julie. I'm very curious . . .interestingly, the book itself says something to the effect that "not everyone will be ready for this book and its message, and that's okay." I clearly was in the "ready and waiting" camp . . .

Hi Julie! Welcome to PBT! I see that you have jumped into PBT with both feet, that's fantastic. Sorry I didn't get some of this information to you sooner but I was traveling all day today...fortunately, being at the airport allowed me to finish a book for tag it to the max :)

First things first, I don't think I need to explain to you how TITTM works since you have already found our rules thread and have signed up to participate! I did post a note on your thread asking you to start a new discussion with the words "julie g" and "tag it to the max" in the title so that the scorekeepers can easily find your postings. Don't worry about the old thread, it will disappear into the oblivion!

Also, while TITTM is a game we are playing for a couple of months, the steady aspect of PBT is the monthly tag. Each month, a random member choses a tag from the top 200 shelfari tags; the tag for July is fairy tales. You then read books under this tag and can write reviews on the discussion thread July tag: collective reads for our shelf. From here, lots of interesting discussion ensues and your book will be put on the PBT shelf. There is other great info about regular get to know you games, where you can find the PBT shelf, etc. if you search the discussions for FAQ for new members.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask me! See you on PBT!

    Happy reading,
    Nicole
