I haven't read them yet but am also interested. One of the reasons I started with the Aphrodite's series was to see if I liked Julie Kenner's style. So far so good :) The demon hunting soccer mom is definite on my TBR stack.

Right now I'm reading the Vampire Diaries series by L.J. Smith because I got hooked by television show Vampire Diaries on the CW. I'm on book two and so far it's pretty good.

I did love Casting Spells and do plan on reading Laced With Magic. I thought I had it on my TBR shelf.....guess I'll have to correct that :)

Candace Haven's Charmed series was really good. Charmed & Dangerous was the first book in the series. She's a butt kicking witch that tries to have a high powered career and a life.

Madelyn Alt's Bewitching Mysteries series is a cozy mystery with magic. It's one of my favorites :)

Sarah Addison Allen writes wonderful books where she laces magic into them. Garden Spells is her first and The Sugar Queen is her second. The are stand alones but beautifully written.

I don't know if you've ever read Alice Hoffman but Sarah Addison Allen is a lighter version of Hoffman. Alice Hoffman wrote Practical Magic. The book is way different than the movie but still a good read. More modern fairy tale than the light hearted movie.

Disappearing Nightly by Laura Resnick was a cute book about a actress on Broadway who discovers that girls in magical acts are really disappearing. She sets out to find where they've gone.

It took Resnick a few years to get someone to publish her second book in the series, but Doppleganster will be released this January. I'm totally psyched.

Shanna Swendson's Enchanted, Inc. series is adorable. There are four books out and I love them all.

Kristine Grayson wrote six books that involve magic, myth, fairytales and folklore. The series in order; Utterly Charming, Thoroughly Kissed, Completely Smitten, Simply Irresistible, Absolutely Captivated and Totally Spellbound. I've read the first four books and loved them!

I've also read some really fun superhero type chick lit books. Jennifer Estep's Bigtime Series was really fun. Those books in order are; Karma Girl, Hot Mama and Jinx.

Julie Kenner also has a superhero series. I've read the first book Aphrodite's Kiss and it was cute. I have the next three books on my TBR pile.

There is a fun trilogy by Dakota Casssidy. The first is The Accidental Werewolf, the second Accidental Dead and the third is The Accidental Human. These books are lite and chick lit-ish but do involve werewolves and vampires. They revolve around three friends and their misadventures.

Gerry Bartlett's Real Vampires series is chick lit-ish. It's fun and quirky. It's chick lit that just happens to involve vampires.

Tate Hallaway's Dead Series centers around a witch but has vampires in it. It is more chick lit than hard core paranormal.

I hope this helps a bit. My tastes really vary so sometimes it's hard giving recommendations. Please let me know what you think :)

Hi Wendy, thanks for the input on Willa Cather books. I am fairly new to Shelfari, and haven't started discussions before. It is fun to read all the replies, and get suggestions on other authors to try. I also like to read Christian historical fiction, as I see you do. Do you have favorite authors in this gendre? Gail. Hi there Wendy! Good to hear from you. It does feel like forever since we've chatted. I always check out your blog posts, but sometimes I don't have time to comment either--only stop by to see what's going on with you and admire your pictures. You always have great ones.

Life really got out of hand for me this summer. The release of my book was exciting, but the promo tasks overwhelmed me. I haven't been able to reconnect with my inner writer and I've begun to feel like a fish out of water. Fortunately, I did my last major thing yesterday and now I just have bit of housekeeping and then I can start being who I am again.

We did make it to Canada and it was absolutely amazing. So beautiful and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. I went zip lining while there and that was a blast and then had a spa visit for a massage the day after. Sheer bliss. I read about 5 books over the 5 days and utterly enjoyed myself.

No worries about not posting on the romance writers--I know your tastes run more to historical. My month of a different author every week is over so now I'll probably have more posts that aren't contest related. That's been exhausting, let me tell you.

So school doesn't start until after Labor Day there? Our school started on the 10th of August. Not sure why we start so early but it's always been like that in AZ. I think it has something to do with the agriculture and getting everyone out of school early for planting--but those days are long gone and the agriculture is moving west into less populated areas near the border of AZ/CA. I remember being amazed when we moved here at how many farms there were--cotton and tobacco were big industries here. Who knew? But homes have taken over all of those farms and now we have housing developments named after them instead.

Question for you--so do you teach or do you do after school program or...???

Yes, got my daughter off to school. I tell you, it's been a traumatic month for me. She is doing okay and I see her frequently because ASU isn't that far away and I'm actually taking a class there so I meet her for lunch once a week. Still, it's strange to have her gone. My youngest is a sophmore and keeps reminding me that in a few months she'll be getting her drivers permit and learning how to drive. Not sure my heart is read to take another terrifiying dose of teaching a kid how to drive.

How are you and the family? What's new in your world?

Thanks for checking in. :) It's great to hear from you.

I wish I could go part time in the summer. I do remember the picture of your house and it looks like you have your work cut out for you. So big and with such pretty gardens. I love the pictures you post on your blog.

I've been working on my new book, but it's been slow as I'm constantly distracted with promo for HAUNTING BEAUTY. Things are starting to settle a little now, though and I'm looking forward to getting back into the writer part of my brain. On Saturday night I'm hosting a chocolate and champagne book signing party at my house and then next week my oldest starts college and my husband and I are taking off for a week in Canada. I haven't ever been there so I'm really looking forward to it.

On my google alerts it says the temps are in the 70s. Compared to 110, it sounds like paradise!

Yes it's me, thanks for the compliment! I have to admit though, this is probably one of the best pictures I have (I had just gotten my hair done) I love the idea of Reading through the states! That is so creative! If you haven't read one for Colorado yet, I was just recommended the book "Breathe" by Lisa T. Bergren. A friend of mine who is also a radio announcer just read the book and loved it. She did a review on the book & an interview with the author. Here is her blogspot address: http://cindyswanslife.blogspot.com/ It should still be at the top of the page.

Oh and you must read "Redeeming Love" as soon as your done with the states. Now that I think of it, the book is based in Alaska, so maybe you could use it for that! It's setting is during the gold rush.

    Take care,

If you like christian historical fiction you have to read "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers!! It is my favorite book, and most of my christian friends say it is the best book they've ever read. If you haven't read it yet, make sure you pick up a copy soon!

Hey you, well I keep waiting for things to slow down, but it just isn't happening. Between trying to advertise the new book coming out and trying to think up a decent idea for the next book I'm going to write, I'm still nuts.

My daughter is going to the ASU as part of the Honor's College program. I'm so glad she'll be close to home. My brother lives in NY--Saratoga Springs, but I don't get out there to visit much. I'm going to Washington DC for a writers conference next month so I'll be on the east coast, but I don't have enough vacation time to make it out to visit him. sigh.

Definitely let me know if you ever make it out west!

How is your wrist? Did it heal okay? How are you and your family? Danny and I are fine. Do you go up to your cabin a lot? I'll bet it will seem good to see Lake Pleasant again. Maybe sometime in the summer we could meet there. Please keep in touch. Your friend, Judy

Yeah, I saw a preview for the movie. I know it's not going to be as good as the book, but I'll probably go see it anyway. I highly recommend that one. It's seriously one of the best books that I've ever read.

I hope you guys have fun! I think we're just going to our church's picnic this Memorial Day (The Sunday before actually). Have a great weekend!

I gave up on American Idol years ago. lol. I've seen it a few times, and you're right, I really liked Danny. I was pretty shocked that he was voted off.

Yes, I can't WAIT for summer vacation. Only three more weeks left I think. I hope. School's just been so stressful lately, I just want everything to be done and over with.

Yeah, I've been reading quite a few vampire books lately. I read the Twilight series first two years ago. Then I recently read The House of Night Series, which I don't recommend (it was terrible so I stopped at the third book). Then I read a series called Vampire Academy. That was really good. I can't wait for the fourth book to come out in August (It's so funny, it's like Breaking Dawn all over again). So if you haven't read the Twilight Series or Vampire Academy yet, I would definitely recommend those.

Right now I'm reading Second Glance by Jodi Picoult. I'm not very far yet, but it's interesting. I liked two other books that I read by her (My Sister's Keeper and The Tenth Circle), so I decided to give this one a try. What have you been reading?
