About me:
As the song says, "I've been everywhere, man..." My life has been good and very exciting. Too exciting at times. It has also been very rewarding in terms of familial relationships. I am blessed to be a grandpa. They call me "Poppy" and it is one of the greatest joys of my life. I am liked, and sometimes even loved by my coworkers. I am respected by my peers; who could ask for more than that? My life has had it's ups and downs, like anyone else. Mostly it has been hard work and hurry. I often say that I must be dying because my life is flashing before my eyes. We are all dying, terminal beings from the day we are born. The best we can hope, or strive for, is to make our lives count for something positive, both in this world and the next. The Bible says to "lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where thy treasure is, there will thy heart be also." Good advice. I pass it on to you.
What I like to do:
I very much enjoy art, literature, and music. I like good food, boats and sailing. I don't get to do much of it because I work for a living. I love to write and tell stories. I try to spend as much time as I can doing one or the other, especially with my grandchildren. The best thing would be the ability to do all these things in combination; without the work part.
Who I'd like to meet:
I'ld like to meet Jesus and I will, soon, just as we all will, but I don't mean the Jesus to come. I mean the Jesus who was, before the cross. He is the model for our lives here, on Earth. To be honest with you I think we have it all wrong. I don't think we have a clue "What Jesus Would Do". I'ld like to meet the men who signed the Declaration of Independence. I would like to learn from them how to be a real man. A man of courage and principles who understands what it means to stand firm for what is right and good; and to have the strength of character to unselfishly put everything on the line for that cause, the way Jesus did. Because I don't think we have clue what it means to be a man, to be committed to those who will come after us. I'ld like to meet Abraham Lincoln, so that I could see his unselfish strength of character modeled in the life of a real man. Not the men today who drop his name among their peers, but live their lives in the self absorbed pursuit of wealth and power. I'ld like to meet Mohatma Ghandi and Buddah so that I could come to know and understand a true heart of peace. I would like to learn how real men channel their fear into non-violent action and response. To be a man of peace willing to stand up to the evil that men do with no weapon in my hand but truth and decency and courage of conviction. I'ld like to meet Martin Luther King Jr. for all the reasons I've already cited. There are many contemporaries I would like to meet for other reasons than those already cited. Men and women of science, literature, art, religeon and government, but I won't bore you with their names.
As Jim Croce said it: I'm, "movin' ahead so life don't pass me by."
