I'm your A-class nerd, I like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Twilight, MMORPG's, really long historical romance novels, I'm artistic and I love to sing Karaoke... badly...

Oh- and I got married in May and am happy to report that it's every bit as wonderful as I expected it to be!

You'll have to let me know how you like Keturah and Lord Death when you read it. Remind me, have you read any Garth Nix or OSC? And I'll have to get back to what you thought of BD after I've read it. It's very difficult nowadays navigating shelfari without seeing people's reactions to it and I just don't want to know anything until I've read it. Sorry. Babbling.

I'm so glad that you enjoyed the book! I thought it was definitely the most complex in the series (maybe a little too much so for the teen readers). I loved it and I look forward to reading your comments.

Howdy. I figured work was hectic, especially with your trip, so no worries.

Yeah, I heard Comic Con was crazy 0_o, especially the Twilight stuff. That's cool that you managed to see a few panels, particularly the Twilight one. You lucked out getting a poster- congrats =0. I heard they shut down the Twilight area at one point due to fire code violations. The youtube vidoes of the panel were hillarious- tons of screaming.

Did you buy any goofy stuff while out there?

My wife will read breaking dawn this weekend, then I'll take her copy when she's done. I suspect I'll be playing alot of video games this weekend, cause she's going to read like 24/7. Or maybe I will surprise her and buy a copy too, then we can read it together-ish and discuss things. I have a few games I'm itching to play, but I bet she'd like that. Soul Calibur 4 is way fun if you like those sort of games.

Oh, and we'll probably be rewatching karin soon. You'll have to update me when you make more headway on that show (or other ones). I'll gladly make more suggestions if you want to download more stuff

    Cheers =0

No problem! I hope that the line isn't too bad =0. I'm glad that the Comic Con trip wasn't primiarly (or exclusively) about getting a book signature for you. My wife was considering going, which would have been ~90% about the book. Wish Stephenie Meyer had told people ahead of time. I bet there are plenty of Twilight fans who travelled cross country just for a book signing and now won't get it. Ouch!

Nonetheless, I bet you'll have a great time. If they have an AMV (Anime Music Video) contest, I recommend you go and watch it for a bit. That's my favorite part of most anime-cons- they're awesome, and can often turn you on to amazing shows (or help you relive shows you like alot), although I'm not sure if Comic Con will have that.

Have you been to any Cons before?

    Have a great time!

Bad news- Stephenie Meyer updated her site to read that she would not be signing books at Comic-Con. Totally bogus. You should look into the details on her site. Apparently they will be having a random drawing early on Thursday for who gets a signed movie thing from her and the cast, but no books. At least that means you’ll get to see the panel =(

I spoke with my friend who goes every year, and he says he doesn’t know too much about the badges. If you get a 4 day pass you can pick it up on Wednesday, which he says takes like 5 minutes. He said that previous years there were two areas on Thursday- one area was for people who had preordered their badge, so they were just picking it up, and the other was for people who hadn’t preordered and were waiting in line to buy a ticket. He said that the preordered people’s line was fairly short (30minutes or so?), but the other was horrendous from what he saw. I am not sure if they will follow the same format this year though, so be wary! I’ve been to a fair number of “-Cons” and they vary greatly in how they structure the pickups, how long the wait is, etc. Bring your DS or a book, just in case. If you have an ipod, throw a few episodes of a TV show on there =0

Let me know how the Con goes. I’m sorry to hear that Stephenie will not be signing books. I bet there will be a lot of unhappy people about that. My wife and I were considering going there JUST for her signature. We’d be totally burned if we went and she waited until now to say she won’t sign.

Hello hello. Sorry for the slow reply- I am rarely on shelfari over the weekend.

I see you’ve done quite a bit of research. I’d probably do research as well if I were going there… I have a big work deadline this Friday though, so it wouldn’t be feasible. Blah =0.

I’ll check with my friend and ask him how the badges work, and how long it takes to get them. I agree with your assessment that her book signing will probably be intertwined with the panel signing. She will probably just be sitting next to the movie folks. With that being said, he said that usually the line for the signings for the panel is separate from the panel itself. Otherwise the moment the panel was done, you’d have everyone in the auditorium surge forward in a big mob to get signatures =0. With that being said, I’ll double check with him and see what he thinks (based on prior experience). They may very well change things up for this one- such things are often not planned very well at big events like that (thus the 5 hour wait or whatever it might be)

Glad you two liked Claymore! Yeah, I liked the ending quite a bit, considering the anime was still going. Part of why Berserk was so bad was because of where they ended it (relative to the manga). That’s like the darkest story ever, and it just gets more and more wicked later, and they oddly had the show end right as it got extremely dark. Bad choice.

I haven’t gotten around to jump into the manga of it yet. If I step over into that world, then I’ll have like 10 mangas I’ll need to read (of other good shows), so it’s best I don’t bother for now =0. I hear the manga is very good though, especially with the Dwellers and the conflict with the organization/men

Yeah, a new mac would probably be a better utility investment than a 360. Now with the cheaper price though, I’m sure you’ll find a good chance to pick it up. If you do, you can always mod it, which helps.

I’ll check with my friend and get back to you soon- hopefully today or tomorrow latest, so keep an eye out.

In the meantime, you guys should try Karin and FateStayNight. Both are great, although Claymore is tough act to follow

One of my friends that is going (he lives there- goes every year) said that usually the movie panel and the signing line are seperate. So that means that if you don't want to wait in line for 6 hours, then you might want to skip the panel and just go get in line like 30mins before the panel even starts. Otherwise what happens is the panel gets out, and the hundreds of people then flood out and go straight for the line. Not sure if this will be formatted the same way, but just thought I'd share that info with you! I'd take a signature over a panel =0

Tales of Vesperia is for the 360. It's a somewhat different format than Baldurs Gate (which is fun). Vesperia plays kind of like a Final Fantasy game (overworld, towns, etc), and when you run into a random battle then it turns two player. The battles are in real time, so you havbe up to 4 party members running around casting, attacking, etc. If you're playing alone, the rest are just AI and you can swap between them or pause and give commands. If you have friends/husband playing, you can play up to 3-4 players at once, each controlling one character and being able to swap to/from the AI controlled ones. If you all get a chance, check out the trailers on gametrailers.com, see if it might be worth getting a 360. it's a good time too, b/c the 360 is just now (this week) dropping in price. it's down to $300 at target already, I think, and will soon be $300 everywhere.

Cool, glad you two are still moving along with Claymore. I don't want to spoil anything =0

But let's say that things get escalated dramatically (and permanently) =0.

There are some elvish folks in Claymore, but I dont think they dip too much into it in the anime. Claymore is one of those shows that has one season of anime, but like 3-4 times as much manga (and its still going). I'm not a big manga person, but if you get hooked then you can download the manga and savor the craziness. There are plenty of awesome anime, so once I run out of those I'll start looking at manga.

My wife just finished reading ender's game- I'll have to see what she thought when I get home. That's one of my fav books =0. Have you read World War Z? It's a history of the Zombie War. Awesome book, very geeky, but if you like zombies then it's a must read

Exciting! I’m glad you were able to get started on those shows. Yeah, mkv’s are an odd filetype, and they really only work on computers. They essentially simulate DVDs, in that you can embed more than audio file (for multiple language dubbings), and also more than one subtitle file (for multiple subtitle options). It’s nice for people who want something specific, or to switch between them, but mostly I see it as a hassle since most animes are best as Japanese dub English sub, so why not just use AVI? Oh well =0

I’m glad you and your husband started (and liked) Claymore. Berserk is indeed very similar, I’d say- very dark and evil, very exciting.

I agree the gender dynamics are indeed fascinating with that show. I think that the writer(s) created a rather rich story and set of characters. I’d throw some further opinions out, but I don’t want to reveal anything. I’ll just say this- that show gets better and better as it goes on. Like, exponentially better. =0.

I think you’ll really like FateStayNight and Karin as well, although those two are totally different. I’m currently watching an old show and a super new show. The old one is Monster, the new one is Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei.

Btw, you’re going to comic con (I saw you mention it chatting with someone else)? I have a few friends going. My wife is having me saddle them down with books to get Stephenie Meyer to sign =0. Hopefully the line won’t be too long for them!

Oh, and I've been playing lots of Battlefield Brothers in Arms- a fun FPS. It'll tide me over until we can play the Tales of Vesperia game next month (2+player RPG). You play any new games lately?

Keep me posted, esp on claymore/the animes!

Cool beans- I'm glad you guys will get to try them this weekend. There are indeed some options for watching it on your TV.

Option 1: get an S-Video cord (if your laptop has an S-Video out, as many do). You can then plug that from your laptop into your TV. You will also want an audio out cord that will go your TV. That would be like a headphone to Red/White cord. I used to do this all the time- it works quite well

Option 2: get a usb drive (like one of those 1to4 gig ones), throw a few episodes on it, then plug it into your PS3. I assume you would be able to watch media from the drive on your TV, because the xbox 360 can do that.

Option 3: Uh, i guess I only have two ideas... =0

Certain filetypes may not be playable via the PS3, so here's a list that I saw online someplace:

    Compatible video types
    Memory Stick Video Format
    MPEG-4 SP (AAC LC)
    H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Main Profile(AAC LC)

    MPEG-1 (MPEG Audio Layer 2)

MPEG-2 PS(MPEG2 Audio Layer 2, AAC LC, AC3(Dolby Digital, LPCM)

    MPEG-2 TS (MPEG2 Audio Layer 2)

Worth a try. Let me know how it goes!
