I'm a big fan of Murakami's work (have been for years, even before it was "cool" to read his stuff). Murakami writes beautiful prose and The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is no exception. I have to warn you though that it is a bit long-winded and even though you'll be mesmerized at the dream-like quality the story unravels in, the ending was a bit of a let-down for me. But try it out, Haruki Murakami is a wonderful writer. My favorite novel by him is Kafka On The Shore and you can also try A Wild Sheep Chase, Dance Dance Dance (Sequel to A Wild Sheep Chase), and Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World.
Hi Artgoddessmama,What a blast looking at your shelf! You have read a lot of the same books I have. I got to your page by answering your question about Wind Up Bird Chronicle. I wholeheartedly recommend it. It's like reading a dream. You have to be a little patient with the lack of plot and just enjoy the ride. It reminded me of the magical realism in south American Literature. The other novel I liked by Murakami is Kafka by the Shore. Let me know what you think.
