I am an avid reader like many of you, and enjoy both fiction and non-fiction, as well as books on self-exploration. My husband was recently transferred halfway across the country, leaving us in a new environment without friends and family. Shelfari has turned out to be a great place to visit and here from others about what they are reading and... more »

The libraries are so much better in Michigan than here. The CA ones are a joke. I was horrified when we first got here, I guess they'd all rather be outside than reading a book. Even the brand new SF one is ridiculous, hardly any books and entirely filled with the homeless so the place reeks. Peter Robinson is great, his Inspector Banks books are fantastic. I would look at the website and read them in order, cause each one is a continuation of the previous.

Sadly Michigan has been in a real depression for a lot of years, and sounds like it's getting worse. My Mom told me now they are starting to lay off white collar workers from Chrysler, in addition to all the thousands they gave the boot to recently on the lines. Birmingham is certainly more upscale than most of the suburban cities around there, so maybe it hasn't changed much. I love living in this area due to the weather and natural beauty, but there are certainly problems here too. SF itself has become very dirty and more crime ridden and the homeless are in the thousands. I used to work in the Tenderloin area, which is a real cesspool, I don't miss it at all.

Good morning. I like both the coffeehouse ones and the flowershop ones. They are "light" reading compared to the British mysteries. Yes I used to read the Davidson ones too. Since I retired I don't buy the hardcover books right away like I used to, so many times by the time a book makes it to paperback I've forgotten all about it!

How are you liking Michigan so far?

LOL re royalties, I could try and collect them for him I guess ... Oh well if you're used to Jersey you should be just fine! Yes we were lucky, moved from MI to VA and then out here, each move was to a warmer spot.

My favorite character is Lulu, she keeps me in stitches

Hope you are used to a lot of snow and gray skies, cause that's what you'll be getting, 5-6 months worth. Since we moved to CA I don't think I could ever go back there again. The funny thing about the Stephanie Plum books is her man is Detective Morelli, which is my brother's name and former title haha. It always makes us laugh

Hi! Any of the Stephanie Plum ones are hilarious. I just noticed you are in Birmingham! My Mom lives in Hazel Park and brother in Madison Heights. He is a retired Royal Oak police detective.
