Founded in 1924, the Oneida Public Library is chartered by New York State to serve the 15,202 residents who live in the Oneida Public Library Special Legislature District, which is coextensive with the Oneida City School District. The library is governed by an elected, seven-member Board of Trustees. An appointed Library Director is the library’s executive and administrative officer. Library staff includes an Assistant Director, Business Manager, Children’s Specialist and Literacy Coordinator, plus six supporting staff members.
The Oneida Public Library supports a collection of over 80,000 books, periodicals and audio-visual items; offers frequent and diverse children’s and adults’ programming; and provides accommodations and services for numerous not-for-profit community groups and for public- and private-school tutoring programs. As a member of the Mid York Library System, the Oneida Public Library gives residents free access to the collections of 43 member libraries, to many research databases
