I've been working as a CNA for 2 years and plan on continuing my education and becoming a RN.
I ride My horse when I am not working and read as many books that I can get my hands on.

I'm actually not teaching this summer. I would have liked to, so I could earn some money. But there were too many teachers who wanted to teach and not enough classes to go around. So this summer I'm living off my savings (but I'm still taking lessons--I couldn't give those up!). I'll be teaching again starting August 27. Are you taking any classes this summer?

Do you know about Chris Irwin and his methods of handling horses? I've seen him do it in person; it's amazing. I bought a dvd to try to learn how to do that myself. You could check out his website www.chrisirwin.com, or statelinetack.com and look for the horsemanship training library links.

Sun Kissed sounds really good. I'll check it out!
I've been riding for about a year and a half. The first summer I took lessons, I rode Western. I switched to English last June, and fell in love. However, my trainer just told me (jokingly) I should go back to Western for a while, because I had a really good sitting trot then, but not now. I don't know how she could possibly remember! I think I'd like to compete, but I really don't have the money to do it seriously. I'll have to just stick to the ones my trainer hosts.

riding on the beach (and going swimming?) sounds great. I hope you get to do that! Today I rode a small Thoroughbred named Brava; I got to practice doing flying lead changes, which she practically does by herself anyway. It was a relief to not have to worry about a spooky horse. Her only flaw is that she tends to go on the forehand to the point that when we canter (lope), I have to hold up her head to get her to engage her hindquarters. But I love Brava...she's the best of the school horses I've ridden. If I could, I'd buy her the way you bought Mr. Ed!

Read any good horse books (fiction) lately? I just finished "The Bloodlines of Shackleford Banks" which is about the same horses as the ones talked about in the article in this month's Horse Illustrated! Good mystery; I recommend it.

I learned Western Pleasure two summers ago, took the winter off, then when I started lessons again a year ago, I started learning English: basic equitation, some dressage, and a bit of jumping. I've been out on the trail, which I love, about three times, each time on a different horse. Got some funny stories...I like the way Mr. Ed looks...what is he? Shayna is 20, but she still acts like a butt sometimes, too. She for things to shy from, even things she's seen dozens of times before. She almost unseated me two weeks ago when she suddenly decided she didn't like the far end of the indoor. But she's taught me a lot.

Who are you riding now? I use school horses; I've spent a lot of time on a chestnut Thoroughbred mare named Shayna. She's a spooky horse, but I've learned a lot about collection to distract her. She's the only horse I've met who avoids pooping in the arena. She prefers to wait until she's in the barn, and after my lesson, she'll remind me with a nudge from her head to stop chatting and get her back into the barn. :-)

glad to know you think so! What kind of riding do you do? Right now I'm learning collection and collected transitions, but I've also done a bit of jumping. Mostly I'm learning equitation. I know you ride western; do you take lessons?

Hi, I read your post about the Outlander series, and noticed the picture of your horse. I thought, two things in common, my two favorites: books and horses! So I've sent a friendship request. Check out my profile! Check out my shelf! Hope to hear from you soon.
