I am an avid reader with varied interests. I like some sci-fi, more fantasy than sci-fi., e.g. Jacqueline Carey. I like some chick-lit, mostly British. I have some interest in the classics. Lately, my favorite authors are Tana French, Stieg Larsson and Henning Mankell and his Kurt Wallander thrillers. All their stories are character driven and... more »

Hi there! I'm just dropping by to welcome you to The 100+ Book Challenge. The idea of the group is pretty much self explanatory - try to read 100 or more books in a one year period. If you do have any questions, please feel free to send a message to me or Tenia. In the meantime, good luck reaching your goal!

Hej! Jag mår bra, lite trött (a little tired). Hur mår du? :)
Sorry for not getting back to you earlier :( That is great that you have a discount on your bookstore, would like to have on mine as well :D
Can't you borrow Jo Nesbo on the library? Tell me what you thought about Jar City later, I haven't read that one!

Yes, the Czar period is very interesting :) I agree with you about the "live-forever-part" is why vampire stories are so fascinating, it could probably have to do with that vampires are beautiful as welll (or they are supposed to be).

Your welcome! I'm on book 9 out of 47 at the moment. I don't know if they have a Swedish version but they most likely have. We seem to copy everything you have on television - Idol for example. It is just a matter of time before we as well have Hell's Kitchen here.

Sorry for the short reply, have two exams to study for and an essay plan to hand in. Alix is wonderful, she proof read my essay plan about vampires :D

    Take care and happy reading!

Hej! Jag mår bra, hur mår du? :) Thanks for writing in Swedish! And you're absolutely not an "Ugly American" because I get to practice to write in English ;)

Hardcover books are expensive, I usually buy books that are in paperback because they are cheaper :) However, I bought The Lost Symbol in hardcover because I wanted it so bad and the queue line on the library was loooong.
I also like the Swedish system with 14 days for new releases :D

It's not that bad spending time reading about Russian politicians, it is interesting but vampires is kind of more fun. The books even have more interesting titles: "Not your mother's vampire" and things like that :D

I'm also reading part 8 of a Scandinavian serie; The Ice People (I don't know if they have been published in the States) by Margit Sandemo. There are about 47 parts of it and I'm on nr 8 :P But they are good. They have both fantasy, romance, drama etc in them. If you find them on your library I would recommend you to read at least the first book :)

I have seen the commercial for "So You Think You Can Dance" but I've never watched an episode :( Do you watch "American Idol"? "Swedish Idol" just started a few weeks ago so I plan to follow it.

Take care and happy reading! Looking forward to hearing from you and talking with you on the chat :)

Hej! Camilla Lackberg's latest novel is really good :) I have read about 150 pages and it seems promising. I bought Lost Symbol last week and I'm looking forward to read it :D What book did you pick up? =)

I want to re-read the Martin Beck novels but it will have to wait until I'm finished with the essays. Seems as if my days are filled up with Russian politicians and vampires.

I have seen John Connolly's books at the library but I've never borrowed them. Thanks for the suggestion :D Sorry it took so long to get back to you as well...
What TV Program did you watch? :)

    Take care and happy reading!

Hej! Jag mår bra (I'm fine) :) Hur mår du? I got a call from the library as well last week and I went to get Camilla Lackberg's newest novel, Sadie Jones - The Outcast, Stephenie Meyer -The Host and a book by Vibeke Olsson (it's about Sweden during 1870 and about people working at a mill). I have to read all of them in two weeks :O And yesterday the library sent an email and told me that I could come and get another book - Lars Kepler - Hypnotist (also a new Swedish crime novel). I plan to go to the library today and get that one.

What is Brats about? :) Talk to you soon and happy reading!

Hi again! Sorry, I didn't see your "first" message. I just wanted to say that it was very interesting to get to know more about Buffalo. Seems like a nice city :) Thanks for telling me about it :)

Hi again! Yes, I have also read The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons and I liked them a lot. I have made a reservation for "The Lost Symbol" on the library but there were 22 people before me in line for it. Tell me what you thought about it after you've read it :D

Well, I don't like to do housework either :P I think that it is boring.

I'm glad your feeling better! Talk to you soon and happy reading! :D

Hi! Yes, at the moment it is very stressful but at the same time quite fun :) I'm glad your foot is getting better and that you can walk around without a crutch or cane. I as well have a nasty cold :( Hopefully you won't get sick as well!

Oh! It was interesting indeed (that Lulea was mentioned in Firewall). I don't remember that, so I have to re-read that book as well :D Lulea is a beautiful city. Yes it is the same actors in the second movie and they were as great now as they were in the first movie. I think that the producers made a good choice in choosing them.

Take care and I hope that you won't catch a cold as well.

    Happy reading :)

Hi! Sorry for the late answer :( I'm fine and school is OK. A lot of things to do as usual. How are you? And your foot? :) Yes I'm also excited about the new Wallander book and I'm really looking forward to read it. Last week on Friday I saw The Girl Who Played with Fire on the cinema :D The actors are really good.

If there was a genie in a bottle I would also wish for the gift of language, the gift of wealth (so that one can buy more books :D) and the same as you, the power to heal. Seems as if we would have the same wishes :D

I'm currently trying to find material for both essays and so far it is going OK. I'm re-reading Dracula at the moment (which I enjoy) and at the same time reading a biography about Gorbachev.
I have to hand in an essay plan on Gorbachev and the vampires so I'm trying to figure out how to write it.

Well take care you too! It is always nice to hear from you!

    Happy reading :)

Glad that I got to spend an extra day with you. Oh and that the bills won the football game. Always makes for happier people.
Can't wait to go to the library with you. Love Ali

Hey girlie!! Thanks for that, it was nice clothes shopping with you today, and getting a curry!!

It is horrible that Roger lost but he can't win every time. Besides Del Potro seems to be a fairly good bloke!! Hope that the Bills will win tomorrow. Man it feels great to be the weekend.

Nope school does not have any more Martin Beck novels. I'd get them for you if I could!

Hi! I can see why you can't by hard covers at the rate you're consuming books :) I hope you can find it at the library.
Personally I don't go to either libraries or university. Never did. I prefer buying books and I don't read that many so it's not a problem.

The Yrsa Sigurdardottir book that you're probably referring to was good. Not extraordinary but good.
Very mysterious and full of dark secrets. There are two more books in the same series that I still haven't read. I think I'm going to order them.
But right now I'm going to finish The Lost Symbol and then I'm going to take on Arnaldur Indridason's new book and the last part of Stephen King's Dark Tower series. After that I have loads of books laying araound waiting to be read. I just have to find the time.

I haven't been visiting Shelfari so much lately and haven't searched for any users or authors but I think that at least I've added most of my books or all of my books that exist at Shelfari. It's hard to find many of the Swedish books here.
I will start exploring Shelfari more when I run out of books and ideas here.

Hi! Yes I hope so, I'm really interested to learn more about Gorbachev because he seems to be such an interesting person. Still, I think that the Vampire comparison is a little bit more fun. I agree with you about them being polar opposites and I have noticed that there are more books about vampires than there are about Gorbachev.

I also want to read things in order, even if some series can be read out of order. I haven't heard about "The Generals", tell me later what you thought about it!

A new Wallander-book has been published recently, "The worried man" (directly translated). I haven't read it yet but I'm looking forward to do so.

    Happy reading and take care!!

It's a bit sad that this is my last day there. When you spend almost 3 years at a place, it's a bit hard moving on. That is not pathetic, it just so happens that I stayed there for a very long time. I'm 20 pages away from finishing Alice, but then I have about 6 other books to read in total for all my classes. Can't wait for this semester to be over, so I can go back to feeling sane. Hope the book that was procured from the library is ok. Love ya!

Hi! I agree with you about some school books being dry and boring but I really liked "Beloved". Until week 40 we are supposed to have read A Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood and The Butcher Boy by Patrick McCabe. Have you read them?

Oh, you must read Stoker's Dracula :D I just love that book. It is a classic horror story :) Anne Rice is a favourite of mine as well. I think that this essay writing is going to be fun!

"The Fifth Woman" is a great book as well. Tell me later what you thought about the books you got from your friend. I also thought that Mikael Blomqvist would be in his thirties in the movie, or at least that was my expression from the books. However, Mikael Nyqvist (the actor's name) is one of Sweden's most famous actors and he did a really good job :) I think that it must have been difficult playing Mikael Blomqvist because of the fact that the books have been read by so many people and so many people have their own certain view about how Mikael Blomqvist looks etc :)

Now I have to re-read Dracula, Interview with the Vampire and Twilight. I have already started with Dracula. I'm writing my C-essay in History as well so I'm reading about Gorbachev and the Soviet Union as well. Talk about two totally different topics! One is about vampires and one is about a Soviet general secretary ;)

    Sorry about my late answer!

Talk to you soon and happy reading!

    Hi!

Yes, it is. It is about a slave girl who murders her baby daughter so that the daughter won't become a slave as well. The daughter is named "Beloved". Several years later, a girl shows up near the slave girl - Sethe's house and her name is "Beloved". I think that book is quite catching so far and it is interesting to read as well. I have about 120 pages left of it at the moment.

I got my essay topic for English literature approved! I'm so happy. I'm going to compare Dracula by Stoker, Interview with the Vampire and Twilight and see how each author deals with the vampire myth. Now I have more reading to do but it's going to be fun.

What a nice friend you have :) I think that the best thing anyone can give me when it's my birthday or something like that, is a book :) What books did you get?

I thought like you as well, that the movie stay really close to the original book except for some changes. I think that the actors were really good as well. I've never heard of "How Green Was My Valley" but it sounds interesting :)

Talk to you soon and happy reading :D

If you would like to try some other Swedish books that are a bit different from Mankell and Larsson I'd like to recommend the adventures in the Crusaders trilogy by Jan Guillou starting with The Road to Jerusalem.
The books contain quite a bit of European histrory and Swedish history in particular and it's skillfully wrapped up by an intriguing story that everyone can enjoy without being a history nerd.
These books were even more hyped than the Millennium series about ten years ago. The trilogy has lately been cooked down two movies beeing the most expensive movie projects ever in Sweden but I definitely prefer the books over the movies.
