Penny - RIP

I hope that once you are over the bridge, your world will be filled with squirrels to chase and opossum to track and all the scents that were as much a joy to you as you were to me.

Thank you for the info and links DL. Impressive guidelines you and your co-admins created. I appreciate you sharing it with me! As a sidenote, I now feel inspired to read a book about every president in chronological order. What an interesting idea!

I have not read The Lost Art of Reading. Thank you for posting your review.

If you would like to create the private group you described, I will join.

I hope you give Robinson a chance even though I didn't like Gilead. You need to decide for yourself if she's good or not.

I refrain from gushing on about The Sheltering Sky to prevent you from making another book purchase. Hahaha.

Thank you for pointing out your review of The Lost Art of Reading. Perhaps we can add that there is a lost art of writing.

As for Marilynne Robinson, the only book I’ve read of hers is Gilead, which I didn’t like.

I am experiencing an unexpected joy reading The Sheltering Sky for the first time now. I'm about a third of the way through it.

Okay, that's fine. My thinking is that if I followed you it would be easier for me to navigate to your reviews, but I can understand your reasoning.

Thank you for sharing your review, one of the best I have read on Shelfari. I agree with everything you say. Hopefully your write-up will draw others toward Anne Fadiman’s magnificent essays. You may want to drop the author a line. It looks as though her e-mail address is anne.fadiman@yale.edu. Wishing you more happy readings.

    Hi,

Don’t worry about using the wrong name, I have known for some time that those two belong to the same person. ;)

I just fished going through all the books in the list (I went one by one so I hope a I haven’t missed any). I hope they are correct like this.

While correcting them I found several copies of some of these books in other editions (a lot of Korean and English ones) that didn’t have the author added (so I didn’t come across them before).
I never kwon what is the best way to do in this case. I have several books that need to be combined, but none of them has the author inserted and the one that has the author name doesn’t appear on the list. Should I add the author to all of them and combined them along with the one that I know it’s on the author page? Or should I just combined them alone and when they are as one just change the author and combine with the other copy? Or even should I add them all to a list and just combine them?
It’s just that I know that if I change all the authors the librarians have to approve it all before combining them so… It’s probably a waste of time for you.

I’m sorry to post the question here, there is probably a thread about this somewhere… :S

Hey DL! Sounds great! I would LOVE to see them! Now, I need to dig out the thumb drive! Thirteen dogs??? Wow! We are about the only ones in our family-either side who lets everyone bring their dogs! We are pretty rural, with 40 acres, but the dogs still stay around the house, usually right under foot! :) Thanks for the offer! - and you are so right about the blackness of labs in a photo. I will send a private message after dinner! Dianne

Thanks for the 'dog pep talk'...I still get all goofy when I think of Os too much, but, I suppose you understand that. I know I was fortunate to have him for almost 13 years...still...I will get A Dog's Purpose. Have you read Good Dog. Stay. by Anna Quindlen??? My brother sent me the audio book, which was given to him when he lost his dog. It has made the rounds, and is definitely a gut-clencher....I ran out of tissues. Then again, I seem to do that with every dog book I read!

I hope you show those docs they are wrong! Give Max and Lacey a hug for me! Dianne

Dogs are the best, aren't they???? I just read what you wrote for Penny, beautiful. I know how you feel, I lost my best friend EVER in 2010, he sits on my mantel. Anyway... The picture is of Shayde, and she is a Silver lab. The picture makes her look more chocolate, maybe the background or lighting, she's actually kind of a pewter color! Green eyes, not as big as my Osborne was (black lab), but lots of fun! I wasn't ready for a new dog, but my husband "insisted" we go look at the litter, by the time we got there, there were only two pups left to sell, one was 'semi-spoken for' (and that's a quote!) The other was Shayde, the least 'perfect' of the bunch, pretty much ignored, an anti-social 10 week-old...like I said, I wasn't ready for her, but, the breeder kept giving her to me to hold, I still have the scars to prove it! The decision maker was when I asked her birthday-she was born the same day I lost Osborne, 15 minutes after he was put to sleep...I wrote the check immediately! The rest is happy history! :)

I just read your post regarding the Callahans....I know I am responsible for part of that mess, still had a note to go back to it. I had several notes, emails back and forth to the author and didn't get very far with that, when he did answer, there wasn't tons of help there. Sorry you went through that, as I am sure I caused part of the problem-Dianne

    Dear Sir,
I'm sorry if I've offended you by posting about the short story contest on your group...
It's just an Egyptian contest and we are doing our best to make it on an international basis...
And the contest isn't even organized by me, if you think I'm promoting or anything, I'm just inviting people to write...
And could you please explain to me what "spam rules" are, and what's wrong with posting to several groups?
    Thanks,
N.B: I'm not "tacky" and refuse to be called as such, that's just not me...

Hi DL, I vaguely remember asking you to write a review for me, of my story Ripple, but now would like to withdraw that request. Since those early scary days when I though no-one might ever write reviews for me, I have received many and have been proudly bragging that all of them are unsolicited. If you wrote one for me, I could no longer make that boast, since I'm sure I did ask you.
So I'm now very grateful that you didn't get around to it.
Hope you enjoyed the story though.

I hate spammers too. I don't know if you noticed I even said something to the Ron Paul spammer the other day. So I will take care of that. In the All Genres group that I am a member of, we wrote some group stories and I made fun of the spammers in it too. So consider that done!

Yes, this is my first time as an Admin on here. I always thought about it so I am glad to have this opportunity to do so. I didn't say anything earlier because I thought one of the people that posted more than me would have asked and I hate stepping on other people's toes.

Anytime you want to chime in, give me advice, or admin through Science Fiction Lover, feel free to. Are you the person that started this group? If not, can you tell me anything of it's history. I have been on Shelfari for a year and a few months. I have enjoyed my time here a lot.

    Thanks again.

Hey there, thanks for the feedback.

One would think that if Shelfari's customers wanted to leave them for another company, the least they could do is hold on to some dignity in the hope that they might eventually find their way back. Burning bridges like this is very distasteful.

Forcing me to participate so that I can get the data that I painstakingly took my time to enter is quite unfair - I'm trying to leave their service to move to another, the last thing in the world I want to do is continue being a part of the community.

It's like me calling to cancel my cable subscription and they tell me I need to sit down and watch another 10 hours of shows before they'll cancel it.

This also isn't the first time that this issue has been highlighted. For over a year people have been asking them to get rid of this, and they've refused to make changes. Hopefully in the future they will change this policy, it's very awful, and actually helps to drive away their clients. Hopefully actions like mine will allow them to see that their 80% policy actually achieves quite the opposite of what they intended.

If they close my account soon they'll save me the trouble. Oh, and stop being dramatic. Me adding one line to a short summary that's hidden by default from users isn't wrecking anything for anyone.
