  • The Ancient One

    The Ancient One says

"A free bird leaps on the back of the wind
and floats downstream till the current ends
and dips his wing in the orange suns rays and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks down his narrow cage
can seldom see through his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings with a fearful trill
of things unknown but longed for still
and his tune is heard on the distant hill
for the caged bird sings of freedom.

The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn and he names the sky his own.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings with a fearful trill
of things unknown but longed for still
and his tune is heard on the distant hill
for the caged bird sings of freedom."

Hey Kristina! I saw that you are a fan and wanted to invite you to a new(ish) group called Anne McCaffrey and All of Her Worlds or you can paste this link in your browser: http://www.shelfari.com/groups/43659/about. Not only are we discussing the majority of her books but we also are doing a book of the month with her work (just started on DragonFlight!), we also like to keep eachother updated on other good reads and good movies/tv shows we might be watching at the moment. You should come check out the group and if you interested drop by and introduce yourself!

    Happy Readings (and Happy Friday!)

I'm not sure I'm the one who got Mom to read Twilight. She's reading it to see if it's appropirate for a 10-year-old. She is not enjoying it at all, but I didn't think she would. Everyone else is addicted, but she is immune to its charms!

I read the whole Southern Vampire series and really enjoyed them. They're very well done for mystery novels. By the 8th one, the plot gets pretty repetitive, but they're still interesting for how her relationships develop. Some of the scenes get pretty steamy... I hated her first boyfriend, but you can't help but like the second two even if one is incredibly dangerous... much more so than Edward. They are novels that seem like easy reading on the surface, but there are very deep things going on beneath. I loved them.

My co-worker just got hooked on the Twilight series, and is staying up all hours of the night to read it. You'll have to let me know how you like both of them!

Hello Kristina! Yes, I had a very enjoyable Christmas. We did our annual family tour of the south, adding Dave's birth parents into the mix. I can't believe I have to head back to work for real tomorrow (I'm here trying to get caught up today). How was your break? Did you go anywhere? Have you been smothered under snow?

I started a new vampire series, the Sookie Stockhouse ones by Charlaine Harris. I've listened to one book and moved onto a second as an audio book, though I haven't read the early books in the series. They take place in Shreveport and northern Louisiana where my husband is from, which is very interesting. They're light but very enjoyable reading.

Interesting listing. Took a few from you. Glad to see you had Ursella listed. You might want to look into Gene Wolff - the Torturer series. Thanks.

Wow, you've been really busy since you got back! It was so nice to see you again, you're welcome to visit Williamsport any time (though I highly recommend the summer), and would love to have you as my adopted sister.
