I remember seeing my mom reading a book one time when I was little and asked her, "How can you read a book with no pictures in it?". She said, "Honey, you make up your own pictures in your mind." And so I tried it and that's where it all began for me....

I loved The Help. I actually listened to the audio of it and it was very moving to hear the voices of the different characters tell their own stories. Hope you enjoy it.

Hi, Jenn. Nice to hear from you again. I've been reading the same kind of thing, some suspense novels and some cozies in between. I haven't had as much time to read as I did some months ago so I have slowed down as well. And with the holidays coming up it'll get busy for me with baking and so on.

I've ordered Twilight from Netflix and am looking forward to that. I still need to read the other books in the series, just hadn't gotten around to that yet.

The pups are great, the new one too. He's found his niche here and seems quite comfy. He does have some ear issues so we'll be taking him to the vet ASAP but I'm sure he'll be fine. He's filled in quite nicely and looks very handsome now, not like some emaciated mongrel. LOL I need to take more pics and then I'll send you some.

Not much going on here. Your dad's been busy with work and I've been doing my 'thang' around the house and that's about it.

So, what ya thinking about going back to college for? And will you be baking for the holidays?

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Love,
    me

No plans for us, really. Your dad will be pretty busy with work for quite a while so we won't be able to do much of anything. And I suppose I might as well start thinking about the holidays, they'll be here before I'll know it. It happens that way every year. We ARE planning on going to Midland again for Thanksgiving to see your grandma. This time we'll be taking 3 dogs. i wonder how that will work out. George is a good boy, though, so it should go pretty well.

The sun's finally back and it seems the rains have stopped for now. It's good to have some dry weather again.

Wine tasting sounds like fun. I went once but it's been a long, long time. We're having the Octoberfests around here but I'm not sure I'll get to go and am not even sure if I really want to go. I'll have to look around and see if there's anything interesting in Plano or McKinney. I don't think Allen has anything going on that's worth going to.

I like going to the old parts of towns, they're always interesting. McKinney has a nice area with little shops and so on. It's especially nice during holiday season. That is one of the things I miss about Germany.

What do you do with your kitties when you're dog sitting? Do you take them with you?

Well, I'm off to do my stuff. Have fun and take care.

Hehe, those balls are a lot of fun. We haven't had much time to play with it but I'm sure it won't be forgotten. Your dad even got an extra one to put in his truck so he can keep clients' kids busy if need be.

It's been quiet here, not much going on, which is a good thing. It seems that the rain's finally stopped. I was starting to wonder if we'd need to get the boat ready. We still have some chance of rain but nothing like we'd been getting. I'm ready for it to dry up a bit so the dogs can play in the yard again. George is getting a bit bored and needs his exercise.

What's going on with you? Anything exciting planned?

    Take care

Hey yourself. :) Your dad's been telling me about the trip. Sounded like a lot of fun to me. BTW, we are now the proud owners of a 20 questions ball ourselves. Had to have one. LOL

I'm glad y'all got to go sailing. At one point it looked like that was going to be unlikely.

It's been pretty wet here. It started raining last Thursday evening and has barely stopped since. We're not flooded here in Allen but some other areas close by aren't as lucky. It still rained this morning but I think it's just about over now.

    So, where's that picture? LOL

    Take care

I saw that in your updates. The movie's just coming out, isn't it? We still don't have our TV back so I don't catch much of what's going on. I'll have to put it on my list then.

I'm reading a Victorian mystery right now which is pretty neat because of the historical background. That's new territory for me. I have a Scottoline and a Coben left to read and then I'm not sure what I'll be getting next.

How are things? Everything's good here. George has adjusted beautifully. he got up on the bed for the first time this morning to get some loving. He was ALL snuggled in, too. :) He's just such a big sweetheart and a good dog. I'm glad we have him.

I'm glad you like the HP so far. I don't usually read fantasy either and this is probably the only one that appeals to me. I don't think I'll attempt any of the other popular ones. HP also has very well developed characters which is another thing that makes it a good read. There is no romance but I've always wondered if there might be in the future. Who knows?

I really like Twilight so far. I'm about 80 pages into it so far but your dad's home now and the puppies are awake so I'll probably not get to read much for the rest of the day.

A colleague of your dad is trying to talk us into taking one of his dogs. Not sure yet how that will turn out but if we end up with another dog I may not get to do a whole lot of reading in the next few weeks. LOL

OK, so I got Twilight and just started on it. I changed my mind and decided to read it right away since there are requests out on the book.

Have you started the HP yet?

I hope you do like it. If nothing else, you might appreciate her writing. Let me know what you think.

My library called yesterday to let me know that Twilight is ready for me to pick it up. I'm all excited now. I'll have to get it tomorrow, no time today, but then it'll be at least a few days before I'll get to it. i picked up too many books again last time I went to the library.

    Happy reading. :)

Well, I just put in a request for 'Twilight' at my library. That book has a lot of holds on it so I don't know when I'll get it. Time will tell.

I added 'The 13th Tale' to my TBR list. Noticed it on your list and thought it looked good. Let me know what you think when you've read it.

Yes, finally got to that. Yup, it's a Smart. This was taken in Germany at the Mercedes dealer when I was there in '05. I thought it was kinda cool. At the very least it's different.

Awww, I'm sure you'll do just fine with it. There's more to look at now. :)

Oh, I certainly agree that reading is educational. I know my vocabulary improves when I read a lot and then slacks off again when I don't read. And I just love Grogan for the way he writes and the way he uses the language. I put all his other books on my TBR list as well.

I read different genres as well but suspense/mystery will always be my favorite and it's the one I read the most, of course. I used to read a lot of horror but it doesn't interest me much anymore. And I do go through different phases where I prefer one thing or another and then won't touch it for years.

I don't know a thing about the Hitchhiker's Guide other than that it has quite a following. I'm curious how you will like it.

I've also added some Dave Barry to my list but I think I won't get his books quite yet. I'll decide when I'm done with the ones I have now and the ones I've put requests in for and then the Twilight book(s). That should keep me busy reading for a couple of weeks. :)

Your dad's been fixing up his boat so he's been busy and I've been able to read a lot. :)

BTW, the Sue Grafton is probably the 'fluffiest' one on your list. That's the one I couldn't think of earlier. And I like Dean Koontz. I was a bit surprised to see him on your list. Have you read any of his books yet? I've only read one so far but he's on my list for sure.

Nope, your dad doesn't read, not even magazines. He used to read some of those self-improvement books by authors like Zig Zigler but it's been a long time since I've seen him read one of those. I wish he did read more because I think reading is a very good thing but I can't very well force him. I was just looking at the books on CDs at the library yesterday and wondering if he might be interested in that. Probably not though, he prefers TV. Then again, everybody doesn't have read, right?

I had meant to ask about Josh. Does it bother him when you read? Your dad gets bored when I sit next to him and read and then he starts talking to me which I find distracting. He's not necessarily talking to me but he talks to the dogs and to the TV and such. LOL So I try to do most of my reading when he's not around or, if I absolutely HAVE to finish a chapter, I go the bathroom and read there. LOL What's a girl to do, right?

Well, I started another one of those cozy mysteries. Tamar Myers' 'Old Lace and Larceny'. i have 3 of her books sitting here and will read them in sequence.

I know what you mean by library availability. The books I finally scooped up were ones I hadn't been able to get before.

Harry Potter is a great read. I love Rowling's use of the language and her writing has a wonderful flow to it that makes it a very quick read as well. And the characters are just great.

Christie is always a good read but it's not really fluff. And I think you have one other book on your list that I'd recommended of which I can't recall the name at the moment. I think that might be another easy read.

I have not finished Marley BECAUSE I love the book so much. I want to take my time with it so I can draw it out as long as possible. I've already laughed so hard and cried some, too. It's a great book. I've read some paragraphs to your dad as well and he seems to like it. He even picked it up and read a whole page. LOL

I almost picked it up yesterday but then decided to get some other books. I picked up 7 books at the library yesterday, some of which have been on my list for quite a while. Yes, I did go a little overboard but I HAVE to have my stash. LOL

I'm getting Twilight on my next trip if it's in.

I'm about to finish the Scottoline book and really enjoyed that one.

    What's next on your list?
