And. . . we're off! Hope you had a wonderful ringing in of the new year; now it's time for the Fantasy Challenge reading to begin! Good luck!
I loved Spindle's End. . . it probably has the most world-building of any McKinley book, and the world is absolutely delightful. Hope you enjoy it!
Only three days until the start of the Fantasy Challenge! Make sure to plug your holiday books into some categories and get your list started. Happy reading! :)
Safe trip to Boston! Enjoy the holiday!!
Hey Beth, You are so kind to offer me your books!! Are you sure? I'll send you a PN w/ my address. Thanks!!
Jacky falls in love, makes many interesting friends, travels the world on historically significant adventures. As she grows up she learns the value of friends and how to make her own happiness. Continue on!
I love the Jackie Faber books! They are great on audio.
Curse of the Blue Tattoo is probably my least favorite, but I still enjoyed it. Keep reading the series and I'm sure you'll fall in love with all the young men our vivacious Jacky runs in to! In the Belly of the Bloodhound is tough to read because it's easy to imagine people of the day having similar experiences. In Mississippi Jack, Jacky comes to the new country, and in My Bonny Light Horseman, she finds her way to France. In the most recent book, Rapture of the Deep, she's off the coast of Cuba!
How did you like Curse of the Blue Tattoo? I love the Bloody Jack series. It keeps getting better and better. LA Meyer is very talented.
Thanks for recommendation, Beth! I look forward to reading it.My 'swapbook' for you is Love and Longing in Bombay by Vikram Chandra. Hope you like it.
Thanks for the rec! I was aware of those books when I worked at a bookstore, but I don't read a ton of YA stuff so I never picked it up. However, I read a novella by Garth Nix in a fantasy anthology I bought and it was fairly promising, so I might check out more. What is it that you particularly like about that series?

Hi Beth, Oh this book sound great! Thanks for the recommendation. It'll go on my wishlist. =)By the way, have you read The Warded Man? Oh my goodness, it's wonderful!!
Oh, I also like Tanith Lee. Just read The Silver Metal Lover by her and liked it.
My favorite book by McKillip is The Changeling Sea. I also liked Ombria in Shadow and Song for the Basilisk.
Hey, I didn't notice your message, I would have replied sooner. Anything McKinley's writes I would recommend. I also like Patricia McKillip and Garth Nix.
Hey Beth, What a lovely note! Thank you for that & your friendship. I'm so glad you enjoyed On Fortune's Wheel. Have you picked up Robin McKinley's latest, Chalice? It was also very good.Let's see, some more in that vein...My memory is not as good as it used to be, so forgive me if I've mentioned some of these before. Patrick Rothfuss, The Name of the Wind is superb. Let me echo Loweye' sentiment down below about Guy Gavriel Kay. I've loved everything he's ever written. For fun adventure stories, try some Robin Hobb.Hope you have a great weekend!
Hi! I saw your thread about Robin McKinley over in the fantasy group. I just started a Robin McKinley group and would love to have you join us!
