Started out rather slow and I had some trouble remembering people's names and ranks (especially since characters would use several different names when referring to one another). The author made occasional dry references to events, presuming the reader knew what was going on, both in history and in the course of the book. I like this when I know what he means, but sometimes I didn't. The course of action really picked up in the second half, though, so I'm giving 4 stars rather than 3.

4.7 stars* Holy stinking armpits* a cliffhanger ending. Just leave me hanging there for how many months ? ARGUH !
It all started with, one naked ex, a charred handprint and a wisp of something more. Karou, is trying to go about her life after breaking up with the wrong guy. Sadly, he's still hanging around. He doesn't draw her attention anymore, there a new face that does. He is beautiful, she meets his eyes across a group of people and finds there is something there. She goes on her quest for Brimstone to collect more teeth unknowing that everything in her life is about to change.

Akiva, has come to bring down vengeance on the chimaera and to end a war. He has lost the love of his life to this war along with his hope. One day while in the human world he saw a girl with blue hair. When he looked into her eyes he saw something, something connecting. He follows her, he must know who she is a what she is. He is shocked to learn of her connection to an enemy. he is even more shocked when he finds out what his enemy has done to protect a fragile hope for the future.

Their paths cross, intermingling through a shared feeling. Slowly the truth starts to unfold. It is a wonderful dream come true, except it's not. Things have been done which will undo any of the fragile happiness found. Death, distraction, heartbreak and the pain war are never far away.
I loved this magical tale. I was in tears of joy and tears of dark heartbreak for them and the other creatures. it is a great example of the ugliness and the depth of destruction war brings. It's twisted, romantic, dark, beautiful and terrible all in one.
So I'm waiting...trapped needing more, the next book

Nine-year-old Bruno's life is suddenly turned upside down when he returns home one day to find his family packing their belongings to leave. They move to a place Bruno calls "Out-with" as a result of his father's promotion after a visit from the "Fury". Bruno dislikes the place, is bored and misses his friends. Exploring one day he meets a boy in "striped pajamas" at a fence and the two become friends.

Originally I gave this novel 4.5 stars, not quite certain why I couldn't give it 5 considering the impact the shocking ending had on me, as well as the speedy pace at which I devoured it. Then I read the negative reviews on Amazon and was made aware of how historically inaccurate this is, and because of that reduced my rating to 3 stars. I can understand how other readers can have an issue with the naivete of the characters and the simplicity of the language, but since this is obviously meant for a younger audience that didn't really bother me too much. However I love historical novels and inaccuracies do not sit well with me, even though I was ignorant of them at the time of reading. I'm glad I read this and as a "fable" as this book is labeled it is pretty good, but to slap history and true Holocaust survivors in the face with blatant historical inaccuracies makes me change my mind about letting my kids read this when they are old enough. Manipulating history to manipulate readers' emotions is not necessary in order to write a good book, so I give the author points for his ability to move the reader, and take away points for fostering ignorance in his audience.

When I'm not spending time with my hubby and family or taking care of animals I like to curl up with a book. I love reading and I usually read about 2 books a week. My favorite authors are Kelley Armstrong, Rachel Vincent, Carrie Vaughn and Patricia Briggs. I also love watching BtVS, Bones,...

The author, a firefighter saw a need for change with so many overweight and unhealthy friends in his field. Hebrings some very interesting information to us in this his second book. He covers scientific research facts that show perhaps our present modern dietetic facts we are all fed aren't all true. He also covers many of the popular diets and why he feels they are not as healthy as directed by general thinking. Do we really need all that dairy, meat and oil to be healthy ? What about in the bedroom ? Will giving up all the protein mess with your love life ? He goes into that, and clears the worry from your mind. There is even a "How to win an argument with a meat eater" chapter. This chapter alone might make many of us change our diets when faced with the truth. You only have one body, and he wants you to take care of it.
Oh boy, get ready for some good eats. The recipes are fabulous and there are over 100 of them. They look amazing and gives you a great variety so your diet doesn't get stale. My teenage daughters already have a list ready to make for the week ahead.
I read book 1 and got a lot of information from it this one has even more to offer. I have seen friends health do complete turn arounds on this diet. To me it seems common sense when you read the fact which eating way is best for the human body. What we are doing now doesn't seem to be working, people are more overweight, have more health issues and need more medical intervention. Perhaps we can reverse that with just a few changes. Why not try ?

I tried not to expect too much of this book because everybody is reading it. It's not perfect, but then it crept up on me and little by little I fell in love with its deceptively simple style, snarky humor, endearing characters, its dusty old books that can only reached by climbing rickety ladders and its hordes of earnest geeks.

Sloan explores the classic theme of old vs. new, of traditional methods vs. cutting edge technology, but unlike many people he doesn't see the two as mutually exclusive. Is the internet the enemy of books? Or is it the new Gutenburg, revolutionizing the way we relate to knowledge...in a good way. In Google vs Aldus Manutius the author chooses both, setting precedent for partnerships spanning centuries.

Ultimately this is a book about loyalty, about dreaming big and then building your dreams from old cardboard boxes, bits and bobs with lots of help from your friends, especially if they are computer geniuses.

I also think it is fun that Kate Elliot writes her own fanfiction. Don't miss the bonus chapter on her website.

    Dead Ever After

I didn't expect much from this book, so I can't say I was disappointed. The series has been going downhill since book 4 and I have kept up with it out of curiosity. So now it is done and I can get back to reading much better books.
